Hi, this is my and my husbands first time on a Cruise. We are doing the 4 night Mexico on Monarch of the Sea for our 20th anniversary on the Feb 13 Cuise.

Any suggestions on what to expect. Like how formal for the formal dinner night? When do they usually have the formal dinner night?

How are the land exursions? What about things to do on the ship?

I would like a little info about the whole cruise and what to expect.

Hi Julia,

On a four day cruise formal night will be either the second or third night. They are never on the first or last night. You can be as formal as you want on formal nights. I usually wear a dress that I have worn to a wedding in the past and my husband wears a suit. I have seen everything from sundresses to long formals on woman and a shirt and tie with khaki slacks to tuxes on men. Unlike others you will find on various message boards, what others choose to wear to formal night doesn't bother me in the least.

I have not taken a cruise to Mexico (yet) so I really can't help with excursions for your itinerary. Though we have always booked ours directly through RCI you can also book directly through various providers in each port. I do find that the activity levels indicated by RCI on their excursions are true to what they list.

There are more activities on the ship than there is time for. You can be as active as you choose or you can just sit and relax. I do recommend that you attend the shows at night they are usually very enjoyable. And do make a point of attending the Quest. I can't really explain it but I feel it is a don't miss activity. All I really can say is it is amazing what some people will do to win a keychain.

Want to see a picture of your ship docked in San Pedro (if not, don't look below this line)?

julia - We took our first cruise on Monarch (Christmas 2001) and have been hooked on cruises ever since. Monarch is a mid-sized ship, by today's atandards, but was considered larger when build. Although we cruised to Cozumel and Costa Maya Mexico, the ship is very comfortable and there are lots of things to do and participate in. Alternatively, you can do nothing and have a great time as well. WE especially enjoyed the dining room and the midnight grand buffet. Another great area on Monarch is the Schooner Bar - great atmosphere and good piano bar area. But, what ever you decide, you will love Monarch.
