Greetings all! First, thank you for your suggestions below. And now I join the ranks, albeit to a lesser degree, with the rest of you who have cruised.
Our cruise left New York and we went out for two nights. It had been a life long dream to sail out of NY...and I was not disappointed. Seeing the skyline of my beautiful city, passing Ellis Island and Lady Liberty, going under the Verranzano all lit up...all of it a dream come true.
We stayed in 6162 and there was more than enough room for my sisterinlaw and I. I was stunned that we had a full size whirlpool tub - not that we had time to use it. Our beds were very comfortable and the room was the perfect temperature.
Everyone, and I mean everyone, was just delightful. The food was terrific. As we ate our first lunch up at the buffet and we both agreed that we had the best seat in all of NY...our departure day was wonderful...the QM 2 was docked next to us, the Intrepid (with the new Concord exhibit) on the other side.
During our first dinner we were seated at a huge window (porthole?) and as I took my first bite we were going under the Verranzano all lit up! How many times had I driven over that bridge and now I was dining in an elegant restaurant and going right under it!
I was also surprised at the amount of people who were on the cruise for the same reason...many of us were trying it out to see out we liked it. And all of us agreed that this was a wonderful way to vacation
The shows were terrific...the foursome reminded me on one of my favorite groups, The Manhattan Transfer.
The casino became very crowded at night but if you were patient you could find a place to play. I enjoyed walking the decks and smelling the fresh air; looking out at the horizon occasionally catching a glimpse of another ship or even a bird.
I am extremely happy with the whole experience and very very happy that I chose this Cruise to Nowhere as opposed to another one that was offered on NCL which consisted of an overnight stay only.
This was a perfect way for me to experience a cruise. Regarding my concern for becoming ill...I did feel the ships movements the first night out, but after having a heavenly night's sleep - it really is like being cradled and rocked gently to sleep - I woke up the next day and didn't feel a thing. I tend to be claustrophobic and once, when I was caught in a crowd in one of the stores, began to feel a little strange. That sensation was quickly remedied by my getting to a window and looking out to the horizon. Please understand that I can get that same strange feeling in any tight space - an elevator, crowd - so it had nothing to do with being on a ship.
That's it from here...I've done it once and will most definately do it again.
