We booked a trip on the Lord Sheffield which is a tall masted sailing ship.

She sails down to the end of the island and anchors off shore for swimming and snorkeling. She sails from the marina which is about a 5 minute walk from the pier. It was a wonderful and relaxing afternoon. Included in the price are snacks french bread and cheese, smoked oysters etc. and bar-b-q ribs (yummy). Also rum punch, beer, wine etc are included.

Not very crowded either because you can't book it on the ships. You can make a reservation on their website. Here's a link.

We did the Glory last month. We spent most of our day on Orient Beach. It will depend on what you like to do. The shopping is great (we didn't do much) if that is your thing. We rented chairs and umbrellas and truly enjoyed the beauty of Orient Beach. There was parasailing, wave runners, water trampolines, and wind surfing available. I'm sure other addicts will let you know what St. Martin things they've done that shouldn't be missed. If you're like us, it will be hard to choose with only one day to be there. I decided I would need to go back!

I will be on the Glory on April 29, 2006 (yes, about one year from now). I too am interested in going to Orient Beach. Getting there should be no problem, just take a taxi. My question is, getting back. Will there be taxis waiting at Orient Beach, or will I have to make reservations?

You don't need to take an excursion to get there. The taxi ride isn't expensive, and you can go there and leave when you want. Crowded? It wasn't when we were there, but there were a lot of people. Yes there are places to eat. Non-clothing area is clear to the right, but you may see some nudity in other parts of the beach. (It is French)

If you want a great excursion, the America's Cup Regatta is one of our all-time favorite excursions. You can only book this through the ship.

Last time we did the Regatta and then spent the afternoon at Dawn Beach. It is a lovely beach and not as crowded as Orient.

Have a great cruise!

Taxis from Orient Beach can be done for as low as $6 pp sharing a taxi or for $15-18 coming/going alone. Just did it Saturday (2/26/06). Fantastic beach. I would definitely go back again without the cruise to experience it all!
