My only 2 cruises have been on NCL, so I can't compare them to other lines. We recently returned from an Alaskan cruise on the Sun. Beautiful ship, friendly crew. We really like the freestyle cruising.

I wish I was going with you. I'm trying to budget for on on the Sun out of New Orleans once NCL switches ships around.

Booking in advance does have its' advantages. We booked well in advance for our January 2004 cruise on the Sea, and it was nicely paid for in advance, in addition to being very inexpensive.

Our cruise on the Sun in June (note 2 cruises in one year) was much less planned, and was actually substituted for a talked about Hawaiian land vacation after my daughter graduated from high school. Unfortunately, my budget is having a hard time recovering from 2 cruises in 1 year, especially as the 2nd one was for 4 of us.

Oh well. Time to start saving for the next one, but with 2 kids in college, it may be 2-3 years out.

Not only are we first time NCL, this is our first cruise ever! Taking the Sea on 8/28. You made me want to go and count the days, minutes, and seconds.

Have a great time. We really enjoyed the Sea. Even though she is a little older and a little less glitzy than the newer ships we thought she was wonderful. We have friends who had been trying to convince us to cruise with them for about 5-6 years. I had always resisted, mainly due to not wanting to leave teenagers at home for a week without me.

I thought the smaller cabins would make me feel claustrophobic, but didn't mind them at all. The crew were all very friendly, and we loved the food (too much, juding by what we gained). We enjoyed the entertainment, and found it to be a very relaxing week.

October will be my first NCL cruise!! I've been on 2 Carnival and 1 Royal C. I really enjoyed Carnival, but it does seem like more of a fun ship (which I prefer) not prim and propper (which some people prefer). NCL Dawn seems to be in between so I'm sure I'll enjoy it. If not me and my friend have a lot of work to do on getting people rawled up!!
