First timer - cabin choice?

We are first time cruisers planning an Alaska trip next summer on the Island or Coral. At this point, we have pretty much any cabin on the ship to choose from, and I'd love some input as to what to choose. We will be getting an oceanview double with a balcony. I'm not worried about the small price differential between the categories (BA through BH), but want to be in the ideal spot, if there is one. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Take a BA on Caribe, they're midship and have a balcony about twice the size of a standard balcony, and it's half exposed and half covered.

If you have not actually booked yet, think about going near a full moon. It is great to leave the curtians open at night and be able to look out at the glaciers....

We had a balcony on Aloha, right next to the elevators, and one floor down from the pools and buffet restaurant. We had a pool on our floor as well. The accesibility was well worth the standard balcony, which has plenty of room and very private, no one is looking down at you in your bathrobe on your exposed balcony.

This is the same kind of question I was debating, and I am a first-timer on Princess also.
We are planning to book a cruise on the Island next summer.
Husband's only preference is a Mini-suite.
I have, with the help of these boards, determined that we should go for the Caribe deck. My dilema is, do I go midship on the bumpout or go for an Aft cabin ?
Seems like the last aft cabin would offer a great view but I was concerned about whether there would be a lot more motion back there ?

The bumpout attracted me at first, but then the diagram appeared like the balcony was significantly smaller . And would it be comfortable having your balcony out there on view for all the cabins next to you ? Somebody mentioned as you look forward it was like you were looking at your neighbors.

Any feedback on this or insight on the two cabins I was looking at;
the bumpout ( C416) vs the aft (C728) would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks !

Same dilema here. Have been searching for a really good explanation of the covered and uncovered balconies on the Coral. The brochure is no help. Just looking for a decent sized balcony with cover.

Me too. We're looking for a midship room with a covered balcony, unobstructed view. Someone please advise us. Thanks

Since we all seem to be in the same boat here; (ha! ...sorry -bad joke)
looking for an answer to the same question,
let me tell you what I have managed to find out so far. Maybe it will help you too.
I've been reading everything I can find from those who have posted about their previous cabins. A very helpful person on a different website, posted some pictures in the photo gallery that are close up shots of the Island baconies. There are three great photo close-ups showing the ships balconies on all 4 decks. They are the best views of them that I have seen anywhere.
Since the Coral is the sister ship, I would think its safe to assume the layout would also apply for your questions too, John.
Check out the photogallery on the CruiseMATES message boards
The pictures I am referring to are titled "Island Princess Balconys"
I think you will find them to be very helpful.
and
Thanks to the "Alaska Bound" poster for kindly sharing them with us.
Sure appreciate it !

We were on the Coral Princess...sister ship to the Island..we got the mini-suite on Aloha A503..it is a bump out mini-suite cabin only 4 of them on Aloha,Baja ,and Caribe..we loved the covered balcony..close to the elevators and the mini-suite was awesome..in Fact after being on it for the 10 day Panama Canal cruise it is the ONLY room I will accept for our 15 day LA, to Hawaii round trip we are planning for 2007on the Island Princess...:grin....I was so spoiled after just balcony rooms....we did settle for just a balcony room on our next back to back on Golden Princess in February..but it is Island intensive..for our 10 sea days on the Hawaii sailing the mini-suite will be :thumb......just my =twocents and JMHO..we loved that room..=love..:)..good luck researching..Joanne
