I'm a first time cruiser, tagging along with my Aunt and Uncle on a Princess Caribbean tour in July, I have a question, (which will probably seem pretty stupid to experts like all of you).

Obviously, I'll be dishing out more cash than the initial eleven hundred. I know that I have to tip the waiters/staff, and a lot of day tour stuff can get expensive (tours). But I'm wondering if they're going to be nickel and diming me here-am I going to have to pay to access all of the fun stuff they advertise like arcades, first run movies, etc?

Thanks for your patience!

Some stuff will feel like nickle and diming, some won't. When you say arcade, if you are you referring to arcade games, yes, they are just like any other, movies, there are movies shown daily on the tv in cabin, there will be movies shown on the lido by the MUTS program (Movies Under The Stars) If you drink a lot of cokes, think about a soda drink card, soft drinks are usually free with dinner but you will pay for them any other time so a soda drink card winds up being a good deal. Ice cream in the buffet is free, Ben & Jerry's is not.

I'm a bit confused here. B&J's not on the CB (you're thinking of RC ships). Princess does have a sundae bar by the pool during daytime hours, but as you said, free ice cream is available in the buffet, but from 3:30pm to 4:30pm. Homemade and with toppings to make a sundae. Ice cream is available at no charge in the dining rooms at lunch and dinner. Did Princess start giving soft drinks for free at dinner? I know they weren't a few years ago. Is the soda card usable in the dining room? (I didn't buy it for our last cruise)

Maybe I was confused too..................... since I don't eat much ice cream and rarely bother with it on a ship, and then only what is available on the buffet.
So it's a Ben & Jerry's clone, either way for the high grade ice cream on ANY line, your going to pay. Part of the nickle and dime syndrome. Maybe
from what I saw the cokes in the dining room were on the soda card, I got the impression that they were part of dinner, but then I'm easily impressed.

I don't do arcades...but I expect you would pay. There is no charge for MUTS (movies under the stars) or the ones they might show in a lounge from time to time. There is no charge for the ice cream served at the Horizon Court buffet during the afternoon ... you will pay a nominal fee if you have ice cream from the dedicated ice cream "booth" (I have never bothered with it) or if you have gelato at the International Cafe....most things at the International Cafe are free (salads, sandwiches and pastries) and there is a charge for others...(gelato, candied apples etc).

If you have purchased a soda card you can use it for soft drinks in the dining room. If you don't have the card you will be charged for soft drinks.
Similarily, if you have a coffee card you can order specialty coffees in the dining room for no charge but would be charged if you did not have the coffee card. (The coffee card is a punch card and you get a punch in it each time you order a specialty coffee...unlimited "fresh brewed" coffee)

You can have a wonderful time on a Princess ship without spending a nickle (or a dime) to purchase extras! There is plenty to eat, drink and "do" without spending anything extra at all!

Enjoy your cruise!

Do you have to get a coffee card to get free regular coffee? We don't drink specilty coffees but love reglar coffee at various times of the day. TIA

You don't need the card for "regular" coffee. You need to know though that a lot of people do not care for the taste of the "regular" coffee. It is made from a concentrate and is not freshly brewed coffee.

So you would need the card for regular fresh brewed coffee. This is all new to me. Thanks

If you want freshly brewed coffee you can get it ... but there is a small charge (I have no idea how much but I'm sure someone out there does). It should be available at the bars and at the International cafe. I personally don't drink enough coffee to warrant the purchase of the coffee card just so I can get freshly brewed...but I do love the specialty coffees and that makes the purchase of the card worthwhile. I recommend you try the "regular" coffee and see if it is palatable to you or not.
