I have been looking in to float plane tours in Ketchikan and have heard great reviews about Michelle with Island Wings. Unfortunately she is booked up during my time there. Anyone know of someone else who is good? I found one called Family Air Tours and the price and trip look very comparable to Michelle's. I was hoping someone could assure me the quality was the same or direct me to someone else. Thanks in advance for any help!!!!!

sorry can't help specifically but there indeed were lots and lots of planes coming and going. deHavilland beavers and the odd twin otter seem to still be the planes of choice. Not far from where the ships dock.

I am booked on Southeast Aviation- and have heard wonderful things about them. There is also a $200 coupon in the Toursaver book.

There is a welcome center on the pier. All the tour guides are there hawking their trips. Even with 5ships in port, they had room. The prices seemed to be about the same $199 for 90-120 minute package. We talked to three but had earlier decided on Michelle based on these boards.

Agent there did not even hassle us and we walked right up to him.

I tried for Michelle, and she was booked too. Then I pre-booked with Southeast Aviation and flew Misty Fjiords on Thursday June 17th...It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Get the Toursaver book to save $ with Southeast (see www.toursaver.com )...but don't rip the coupon out ...the vender must do it.

The owner, Jim Kosmos is great, as was his pilot (I can't remember his name) a once in a lifetime experience, not to be missed. I was very satisfied with them.

Have fun!

I booked mine through Dolly Varden. Rep was great, always ready to help and responded to several emails.

One thing I found out was that many of the flightseeing tours that book through the cruiselines may advertise a lake landing, but you only get to stand on the pontoon of the plane for about five minutes.

Jane at Dolly Varden booked us a much cheaper Misty Fjords flightseeing tour, with not only a lake landing, but one where the plane takes us to shore for about twenty minutes to look around.

oh yes, many of the planes land on the lake, but you then stand on the pontoon for a few minutes.. if you can balance that well.

Michelle is one of those that floats up to a small Island. It is nice to get out and walk on "land" for a few minutes, and get some awesome pics.

Thanks to everyone for their input. We have decided to go with Carlin Air because they gave us a great deal for my group of seven. Have heard good things about them and the pilot was apparently born and raised there. Will give an update after we cruise next month.
