Ruchela made a comment that jangled my brain power..

it is soon to be flu season.. unless you have an allergy to eggs, or any other valid reason I implore all my dear @ddicts friends to get one..they have a nasal mist one that is less effective, and the injection...

it has been put out by the CDC that they have plenty of vaccine.. so please pony up and get those flu antibodies set.. it is a *killed vaccine* so there are NO live bugs.. so you cannot "get the flu" from the shot.. if you have been exposed to a person in 2 weeks time prior to getting the vaccine.. however THEY can share the bug with you..YUCK!!..

so I am imploring you all..I take care of flu victims ,and it is nasty..avoidance IS the KEY!!.. so if being proactive helps..please do it..=hugs to you all..Joanne

Alf & I will be into the doctors office as soon as they get their share of the vaccine. We have been getting these shots since 1986 and have never had the flu. First we were getting them because we were working with the public, now we get them because we both have chronic conditions and because we are seniors.
Hope all see fit to get the protection.

Thanks for the reminder, Joanne. :angel I got my shot about two weeks ago. Quite by luck, a reputable pharmacy I was passing was giving them out, and I zipped in.

DH and I can get them at work for a reduced cost, and got a card in the mail from the pediatrician about the boys.

I just got back from getting my flu shot. My doctor's wife is a nurse, and when she is there, she gives them. I've never gotten sick from them, hopefully I won't now either. Definitely go to get the flu shot everyone.

Still waiting here for them to become available! Should be very soon. I certainly have never had bad effects from them. Keep in mind that "flu" is not that 24hour bug that we often call flu! Influenza can be deadly especially to compromised individuals...like our elderly parents. Scary though, I'm pretty much getting up into the elderly category!

My mom got hers last week and the boys and I have an appointment today for ours. DH will get his sometime soon too.

We've been getting them for over 11 years (even the kids) and have never had a reaction. When others get sick, we don't. :grin

They stopped making the shots with the live virus awhile back. It is a very small posibility you will ill from these injections.

Being an ER nurse I agree - please get them - we see so many sick people during the season and the shots really do make a difference and if you still get the flu it will not be near as bad as it would be if you didn't get the shot.

NOOOOOOOO. Toni you can get it again.. get the vaccine...,

and R8iderfan the reason I added the bit about "live virus " was because for years people have been misinformed on it, same as Toni.. there are so many strains of flu.. you can get another one..so please still get the shot... ..influenza KILLS!!..:(.. a 23 years old son of a lady here in town lost her boy, she still mourns him.. it's been 5 years.. as she put it..a "senseless" death.. and she blames herself.. she should not.. it was a tragedy, but a preventable one.. and she sad to say will never forgive herself..:(.. Please get the vaccine..Joanne

The thing with the flu vacs, as I understand it and I could be wrong... the CDC decides last year which 3 flu virus' are most likely to be active this year. It takes a long time to bring those vacs to us! One year later, those could be the 3 strains that hit the general population, or it could two of them, or none of them at all! It takes about two weeks for a vac to take effect, so you could get the flu within those two weeks. Lots of people do still believe that the flu vacs have live strains, and lots of people probably do come down with the flu within a few weeks of having a vac, or come down with a strain not covered in the vac.

That said, we still get our vacs every year. Kaiser near us does a great job of "drive up vacs." Roll down your window, show your card, stick out your arm, drive off. Can't be any easier!
