What exactly is formal night ... will a tux be required or can a nice sport jacket cut it ... and the dress for a lady ... is a nice dress acceptable or does it have to be more ...

A nice dress and a sport jacket and tie would be acceptable. There will be people in tuxes and dark suits and women in fancy gowns but nice dresses and sport jackets will also be seen.

There will be some people that prefer tuxes and formal gowns but you will not be bothered by the ship, the crew or the passengers.

Formal Night has seen less and less tuxedo's in the past 3 years. On our last Splendour Cruise there were probably less than 10% of the men in Tux's.

A dark suit or sports coat for the men, and a nice cocktail dress or pants suit for the women were the norm.

But guess what Joebat1 was all decked out in a tux and smashing too I might say!

Pretty much anything goes for formal nights these days......

I really enjoy the opportunity to get all dressed up, but I know that isn't for everyone! We even went on a short 2-day once (much tooo short!) where there was no formal night, but we dressed up anyway.....!!

A tux is not required and in fact will be the exception.
Most of the men on our last cruise were in suits or jackets, some just had a dress shirt and pants. Not all were dark colored either.
We saw pretty much everything that you could think of on the women!
Prom dresses and a wedding gown to 'club/nightstyle' wear.

It's not always 'what' you wear but more 'how' you wear it.
