formal night?

I am looking for information on formal wear expected aboard NCL Dream. With the "free-style" dining, is there still a formal night? I heard it was optional. My husband and I would like to participate in a formal night, but don't want to look out of place in formal wear if others will be in slacks or jeans. What do you suggest?

You are never out of place in formal wear on formal night, no matter what ship or what line. On formal night the ones in jeans and t-shirts are the ones out of place.

My husband and I were on the NCL Majesty Dec. 20-27 and there was one optional formal night. He wore a tux and there were quite a few passengers wearing cocktail and evening clothes, so I would go ahead and dress up if you want to. Actually, I thought there were many people who dressed for dinner during the whole week (suits/sports coats for men and dresses for women). Not sure if it was because it was Christmas week and people felt more inclined to dress festively or what.

We will be sailing on the Dream in June 2004. And will dress for dinner. I have never felt out of place when dressed for dinner. May people do dress up.

I would recommend dressing up if U wish as we love to do it and did it on the NCL Star cruise in April of 2002. The only negative comment I have is that unfortunatly with Frestyle Dining U may VERY well be seated with some who do dress up and others who do NOT. It does cause a bit of an uneasiness especially for those that did NOT dress up. The major problem I had with it was that NCL stated in ALL their publications and even in the daily papers onboard the ship that the Main dinigroom would be used for formal dining and therefore IMO it would been in their best interest to kee p it for ONLY formal dining. If they wished NOT to follow their own protocol then they should jus tof stated from the bginning that there were NO formal nights. Just my =twocents worth.

I found formal night a bit of a joke on freestyle cruising. Only half the people do it and quite frankly, I lugged my suit and wife's dresses and all that stuff for one night and i ended up changing afterwards into something more comfortable. Its not worth lugging your good clothes around on a plane then to the boat for 2 hours use the entire time. I won't be lugging that stuff around on the next one.
