We were awarded a "free" Carnival Baja cruise for attending a presentation. We had to pay $275. for both my husband and myself in port charges. Now we are told that the rooms are inside rooms somewhere in a not so desirable place on the ship. In order to upgrade , they want another $350 and then they will put us on RCCC in an OV room. Sounds like too much to me !! Anyone encounter this situation ? Any suggestions? Also... we were thinking of going in Jan... Bad time??

Just take what you got for free. We did one of these before got the cruise for free for buying a certian amount of flooring for our house. The Lady tried to get us to upgrade she said you know the room only has bunk bedsin kinda a snotty laugh. I said thats ok weve been married long enough:) We arrived to find that we were given a room with two singles converted to a king:) Ya sure glad we didn't waste the money on the upgrade which we got for free anyways:)

Thanks for your input !!
I was thinking on the same lines. But.... our friends wanted to do the upgrade. I figure then we are not getting anything free as we could probably get another cruise on our own for around the same price as we would be paying for the upgrade (plus the port fees that we already pd)
Any other input ?
How bad can the room be ??

In January the cost of a 3 night cruise on the Carnival Paradise is:

$290 - $360 per person for an inside

and

$330 to $380 per person for an ocean view.

The four night cruise is:

$260 to $430 per person for an inside

and

$320 to $460 per person for an ocean view.

The cabin won't be that bad it will just be something to laugh about if you do endup with bunkbeds:)

I haven't had a 1A cabin, but I have poked my head into one just out of curiosity. Frankly, I was surprised at just how roomy the cabin was. Unless I was going on my honeymoon, I'd think those cabins to be quite adequate. By the way, I think you got ripped on the port charges; no way they would be that high for a 3 or 4 night cruise.

Janet-

We just got back from our free cruise on the Glory! We paid $290 pp and had Cat.1A bunkbeds. But we had a blast for the price and will do it again when offered to us again. Stay with the cabin they assign you and go and have fun, we did!

Free is the best way!
