Ft. Lauderdale Hotel

We are going on the Summit Oct. 25th and are (as always) flying down the day before. We want a hotel that has both food and drinks either in the hotel or right next door and is close to the cruise port. We have never gone out of this port before. Any suggestions will be greatly apprciated.

You can get tons of info if you look back on this page...this is a much discussed topic. You should do priceline in late September. If you book 3 stars-downtown FLL, you will get Embassy Suites or Marriot Waterfront for around $55-$65...Great deal!!! You will be close to all the good restaurants. Don't be afraid to take a short cab ride. The drivers are used to it and they don't mind. We usually walk one way and cab the other.

We stayed at The DoubleTree Oceanside. Great location and walking distance to shopping, restaurants and the beach. Did not use priceline because we did a direct booking for $125.00 The cab ride to the ship was less than 10 minutes.

After a lot of consideration (including $) we decided to stay at a nicer accommodation a little further away and rent a car. We are departing 11/28 on the Millennium and staying the night before at the Marriott Courtyard FLL East...about 9 miles north of the airport.

Cost - $79

Car - $35 FULL SIZE (Intrepid) from Dollar

This equates to 1st class hotel price but you don't have any transportation costs because it's built in. Plus you have the flexibility to drive around the day you arrive to any place you want to go.

If you're like me (not my wife), I will be anxious to board Sunday so we'll be up early, return the car and take the free shuttle provided by Dollar to Port Everglades. I believe most of the major rental agencies provide this service.

The location is as good as any in FLL because it's just a few miles/10 minutes above Las Olas Blvd where the restaurants, street scene and action are in FLL.

Just an alternative to consider.

We get on the Summit as you get off

Myself and my wife stayed at the Sheraton Yankee Trader last year and intend to do so again in Nov, we found it excellent value, it's right on the beach, has a nice bar and also 'Shulers on the beach' resturant, which is a bit pricey but has melt in the mouth prime rib. Buffet breakfast is also superb.

For cheaper meals, walk round the corner from the hotel to the bottom of Seville St. (200yds max) and catch the waterbus ( $5 all day ticket, with running commentary on the rich and famous ) to Las Olas Boulevard waterfront for a great range of cheaper, but non the less good food.

You can get a Lincoln Towncar through the concierge at the hotel for a 10-15 minute luxury ride to the cruise port, which cost $17, we thought this was a bargain!

We both love Ft Lauderdale and would live there if it wasn't for the small problem of a Green Card.

Hi snuba...this is our first cruise. Maybe we'll meet at one of the bars...couldn't decipher your name...but snuba sounds easy to pronounce in the event I get to the bar early and stay late!

My wife and I stayed at the Rennasiance at the end of Feb before a cruise on the Grand Princess. One of the best hotels I have ever been in ANYWHERE. There is a resturant in the hotel, but it is rather pricey and the menu is not that good. However, there are 3 good resurants within a block of the hotel, as well as a Budget car rental. I am not sure about an airport shuttle, but the hotel is literally across the street from the port and can arrange an inexpensive shuttle ($3 per person for us) to your terminal.

We were curious about the same thing since we wanted to be close to the port, close to the airport and in a better hotel on the beach (actually on the sand since most of the hotels on Ft. Lauderdale Beach are across the road from the beach).

We did our research and found that the Sheraton Yankee Clipper was, in our opinion, the best choice. Therefore, we booked a room for the day after the cruise. Prices run approximately $150.00 to $200.00 and we found that we could not get a better price using Priceline, Travelocity, Cheap Tickets,. etc.

Suggest you visit their Website and make your own decision as to whether or not this property will fit your needs.

I noticed that you said you were leaving on the Summit on 10/25/04. There is a small problem that week, The BOAT SHOW is in town. We are on the Century and we want to stay a night after the cruise 10/30/04 and we have found that all of the rooms are booked.

Check around, if anyone can help us for the 30 th let us know.

We stayed at the Embassy Suite last year for three nights pre-cruise 11/29, 11/30, and 12/01/2003. We bid on priceline.com and got it for $58.00/night and it included a full breakfast and a two hour manager's reception (happy hour) each evening. What a bargain.

Hi, we stay at the Amerisuites in FLL the night prior to our cruise. They are very close to the pier, have shuttle service to the ship and will pick you up on return. They also have a GREAT bountiful breakfast. Your best bet would be to try to book them through Valuetrips.com. Price is better than any other we tried.

I've stayed at the Sheraton Yankee Trader and was curious about the Yankee Clipper, so I took a walk down there. It was pretty mildewy smelling - but that might be expected being right on the beach. Being a Starwood preferred guest member, I didn't think either of these hotels are worth the price. They seem to get their share of abuse, which might be expected in Ft. Lauderdale.

This past April, we stayed at the Sheraton airport for $99 and were upgraded to Club level with full buffet breakfast. Free shuttle from the airport and not a bad distance (or price) to the pier.

Next April, we're staying at the Sheraton suites. I think it might be further, but it's only $89, and that's why God invented cabs.

April, 2004 we stayed at the Renaissance in Ft. Lauderdale ($75) on priceline. Nice hotle, but have had better service. Great location. They do not have a complimentary shuttle. However cabs are less expensive then the shuttles to & from airport & pier. You can see the ships from the upper floors. Super restaurant next door is Bimini Boatyard. It is reasonable, great ambiance (on the water) and the food is ample & wonderful. After the cruise FLL airport is a ZOO.
