We just returned from our cruise on the Mariner and wanted to share a couple of items.

On the second formal night, the main course was BBQ chicken. No, I am not kidding. As of last week they still had lobster and we both had it. Though it was small, it was pretty good. Anyway, several Diamond (& Diamond + members) were told they were doing away with lobster before the end of the year.

As for rest of the food during the week. Almost everything we had in the dining room was very good.

I won the Texas Hold'em tournament and the prize was a free cruise in December and entry in the Mariner Hold'em tournament with a chance to win over $20,000.

And their prices are going up? Another reason why I am glad I am trying Princess this go 'round. RC is totally watering down their brand. Bad move.

Wow! Good for you winning the tournament! Let us know how you do in the next round...I'll be watching for it, and hope you win!!

I read about the lobster/BBQ chicken on the Mariner on the "other" board. It's hard to imagine that they would do this??

We are going on the Navigator 5-day in a few weeks. It will be interesting to see if they serve lobster on that cruise.

Anyone else hear anything about this menu change??

There will be many people disappointed about rccl doing away with the lobster. My DH enjoyed it on our past rccl cruises. We thought the food was very good also.

Congrats on winning a free cruise. good luck in the next Texas hold em tournament.

Wow that's sure new to me. Didn't they serve a Fisherman's platter???? That's the one that had the lobster. Things have changed on Mariner since August.

We had the Lobster tail on the Enchantment of the Seas just a couple days ago. It was served on Friday, our last night on the ship.

I don't remember what they served on formal night, other than the escargot. Hubby loves that. Oddly our formal night was Tuesday, the second night of the cruise. We had been in Key West that day. I was surprised that they didn't schedule the formal night on the sea day.

hey jb- i had lobster on formal night of our cruise on mariner- 3 of them actually- lol- didn't even notice the bbq chicken on the menu- our waiter said lobster was being phased out by yr end from all rci ships- some heard its because the lobsters they are getting are substandard / too small- i just hope they decide to keep it in portofino on the seafood skewer entree-

Hope you are doing well Tamra. We had to switch our cruise next spring as my contract didn't get renewed. I know we'll be eating at Chops in a couple of weeks and depending on the menu may even try Portofinos one night. :)
