Hi there everyone,

I've never cruised with Celebrity before, but apparently they're the only major cruise line that goes to the Galapagos Islands, which has always been a dream of mine to visit... and I'm thinking this is the year! Having a look on the website, this cruise to the Galapagos and Macchu Picchu sounds absolutely wonderful... if anyone here has been to the Galapagos before, please could they recommend to me the best time of year to go?

many thanks!

I just got back and it wwas great. Jan is usually getting into the rainy season but due to El Nino it is late this year, so most places were dry yet. We did have a lot of cloud cover so we didn't bother with snorkeling.

The time of year you want to go depends on what you want to see. We were there 2 weeks after a LOT of sea lions were born. Sea turtles were mating. There were some baby birds, I forget what they were at the moment.

You will have to do a lot of Googleing to find what is around as the seasons change.

Though the islands are located on the equator, the ocean's surface temperature ranges greatly from 7 to 28 degrees centigrade. The islands also go through dramatic changes. January to March is considered the hot/wet season, March being the hottest month of the year. The islands are brimming with plant life, and the water temperatures are ideal for snorkeling and diving at this time of year. Because of the climate changes in July through September, there's less rain and the islands are drier, though cooler. The water temperature drops considerably, though this is the ideal time of year to see more aquatic life, as the animals prefer the colder currents.

The principle regulator of the climate of the Galapagos is the temperature of the ocean surface and ocean currents, creating microclimates on the islands influencing the particular flora and fauna habitats found on each island. When choosing the time of year to visit the Galapagos, prioritize. Decide what you would rather do and see, as not all animals are present at all times of year.

I posted a few. We are still swamped here. I think I will wait a bit until the gallery gets straightened out & we are on that new server. I can procrastinate with the best of them.
