Galaxy first day dress code?

Hi guys

Had a less than wonderful experience on the Carnival Pride on the May 17th cruise.
You know what they say "when you fall of the horse, get right back on". So.....
after my sixth, and maybe last Carnival cruise, I've booked the Galaxy for the
10night cruise out of Baltimore on November 14th, my first Celebrity.
And to be honest I am looking forward to a class experience. Our only saving
grace on the Pride was the balcony, privacy. Starting feeling cramped onboard.
Too many people. Food was not as good as expected. We only lasted 4 nights
in the dining room. Please don't get me wrong, we enjoy good food but was
very unhappy with the quality, except for the pizza which was A-OK!!

I've read all the information I could on what to expect on Celebrity, and I'm ready for it.
No announcements...woohoo!! The dress code I can handle. I'm tired of
sloppy t-shirts and shorts in the public rooms after formal night.

Hubby and I have cruised since April of 1983, the first on the Carnival Mardi Gras.
Everyyear since then, one cruise per year, sometimes two...last count about 34.
So we have done and seen it all.

What I need to know is what the general dress code on the first day of arrival.
How do the passengers dress on boarding, for the first dinner and evening.
I am curious. Thanks so much.

Usually first night is casual as some folks for early seating may not have received their luggage yet........We wear what we have on from boarding......Dockers & collared shirt for him and slacks & blouse for her.....(no jeans or shorts) If you have received your luggage and want to dress better that's fine, but they don't expect it that first night.

Thanks for the fast reply. Since hubby isn't a dockers kind of guy, dress slacks and
shirt should work fine.

I wear my Cruise@ddicts t-shirt and convertable pants with tennis shoes to board. Most people are very casual upon boarding, but you will see some in nice slacks and shirt, even leisure type suits. We usually get our luggage prior to dinner, which will be resort casual. However, it's happend that we've not, and they will be pretty liberal about what they allow on the first evening.

You can certainly wear nice clothes and feel entirely in place for your boarding day.

If you get your luggage, you should follow the dress code which is dockers and a polo shirt. I have been on cruises where you don't get your luggage in time and I have went in my tee shirt and shorts.

I will be on the Galaxy in 42 days and will let you know how fast the luggage comes, but if they don't start boarding until 1 PM and you eat at 6 PM, you may not have your luggage in time.

I have been on Carnival, Celebrity (5 times with #6 and #7 coming up this year), RCI, Princess (2), HAL, and NCL. I think the service and food is best on Celebrity. Take that with salt. Celebrity food is very European in nature. They use a lot of different sauces and it doesn't always appeal to everyone. Service on Celebrity is friendly but they are not buddy buddy. It is elegant service. Remember if something (especially at the dinning room) is not to your liking have them take it back and bring a new or different offering.

I am saying this because some people get their expectations set too high. They think they are going to get true, restaurant 5-star service when you just can't when there are 2000 pax on board. Remember to enjoy and you are on a cruise so it will be great.

What is with all the Dockers?

Casual dress on first night was the norm on the Millinnium and the Summit. I would guess that you will not see sloppy tee shirts and shorts at dinner on the Celebrity ships.

It does very, if the luggage comes before dinner you will not see shorts etc. However I have seen shorts , but this is not the norm. They do not allow shorts in the dining room for any meal not even lunch, but on the first night they will allow them.

It has never been my experience that shorts are not allowed in the dining room for breakfast and lunch.

We were on the Summit last month and it was the norm for people who are going on shore excursions to breakfast in their touring clothes. No bathing suits or beach cover ups allowed, but nice casual shorts are fine for breakfast and lunch. Hardly saw anything else worn during the day in the dining room. Celebrity really doesn't expect you to keep running back to your cabin to change all day!

Now, evening is a different matter. The dress code of the evening should be adhered to for the whole night, not just at dinner.

On the first night aboard you will see all kinds of attire, from shorts & t-shirts to suits and ties! Dress code for first night is always casual, and as some posts above me have stated, you may not get your luggage before your dinner seating. The staff knows that and no one will blink an eye, unless you're wearing one of those awful shirts with not so nice slogans on them!

ljeanbrown, that is not true about lunch. I have been on Celebrity 5 times and you can wear shorts in the dinning room at breakfast and lunch.

BP, I don't understand your question. Dockers are the business casual pants of choice. It is also a generic name (like Coke is for soda) for business casual pants.

We just returned from the 5/30 sailing on Galaxy. We received our luggage sometime after 5PM, however they were still delivering luggage at midnight because of the increased security and luggage screening. We saw many people at both seatings in shorts the first night. This is the only time they allow you to wear shorts in the main dinning room for dinner. The remainder of the cruise you need to adhere to the day's dress code.

I don't think I need to worry about shorts on November 14th when we arrive in
Baltimore. LOL!! Warm coats and slacks will probably be the dress code
for the day. Enjoyed reading all the posts about "dressing right" and I'm not
worried a bit. But....Can I wear jeans on my veranda?????
