Getting back on the next day

My husband, my nephews and I are taking the Carnival inspiration Easter week. We plan to get off the ship in Costa Maya. We have a driver picking us up, will do some sightseeing on our drive north, spend the night in PDC, the day in Xcaret, and then re-board the ship in Cozumel the following day. This is all planned and booked.

My question is: how should I handle this with the cruise line? Should I notify the purser's office? What if they say "NO"?
If they tell me I'm not allowed to do this, and I do it anyway, what could they do to me? I'm afraid of being they will punish us by not allowing us to get off the ship in Belize which would be horrible! Could they do this?

OR, should I just not say anything and pretend I missed the ship? But now that they scan ID cards, they will know we are not onboard, and I would hate for anyone to be stressed out about it or for them to hold the ship for us! (I would at least inform our cabin steward in this case).

I need some advice!

I would definitely inform the cruise line - there are too many things that could go wrong if you didn't - mostly the danger of not getting back on where you want to. If you inform them and they say "no", I'd heed that answer...you might jeopardize the balance of your trip if you don't follow their instructions.

It probably can be done, but not without the cooperation of the cruise line. I'd be way too nervous on my excursion away from the ship wondering if I was going to be able to re-board.

I would definitely let the cruise line know your exact intentions - chances are they will help you execute your plan but I wouldn't try to trick them. As you said, the card scanners will show you all as A.W.O.L. and that could cause a lot of problems. I wouldn't leave the responsibility of telling the front desk to your cabin steward, either.

do you have a passport??????? are you going to need any other documents when you try to leave mexico ????????? what about documents to get into another country-
imo you still have a lot of checking out to do -- the cruise line and the consulate offices of the 2 countries involved

Chavala: You still have enough time to execute this plan, but I would definitely do everything above board. Start by calling your travel agent or the cruise line and explain what you want to do.

You have too much at stake to take any chances and with security becoming stricter by the day, you need to get all the details down pat.

Let us know what you decide - would be interesting.

Well, since Costa Maya and Cozumel are both in Mexico, I don't think you'll have a problem crossing borders.
