I would definitely inform the cruise line - there are too many things that could go wrong if you didn't - mostly the danger of not getting back on where you want to. If you inform them and they say "no", I'd heed that answer...you might jeopardize the balance of your trip if you don't follow their instructions.It probably can be done, but not without the cooperation of the cruise line. As you said, the card scanners will show you all as A.W.O.L. and that could cause a lot of problems. I wouldn't leave the responsibility of telling the front desk to your cabin steward, either.
