Hi

we are going to be flying into Vancouver the day before our cruise. We need an inexpensive place to stay, and the best way to get to the port. A few people have told me not to take a taxi becacuse it is a nightmare and they suggest we walk from downtown (with luggage? i think not).

Is there an inexpensive place to stay and easier way to get to the port? Is taking a taxi really that bad?
thanks!

Well inexpensive and travelling to any Port city these days is kind of hard but as you still have to do it here goes.

1. Taxi first. Getting from the airport vis taxi can run you around 35 40 bucks ca the big thing is when you are doing it. Traffic has been really terrible because of Olympic transportation construction and at rush hour it wilil cost you way more.

If you go to <http://www.yvr.ca/> and click on the getting to and from the airport you exact options and costs can be found.

2. Inexpensive I guess would be staying at a chain out near the airport using a courtesy van to and the back to the airport and then transportation into town the day you leave. When we stay in town we use Hotwire. You can go on there and see how much the costs are to start with and a 2-4 star in Vancouver downtown/west will be fine. You just don't know for sure which hotel it will be until after you book.

3. If you are searching for a hotel near the airport. It is actually in Richmond BC not Vancouver but several hotels further away end up trying to call themselves "Airport"

good luck
ask away if anything else comes up or you need a specific and I see if I can help.

The problems with taxi's are getting out of the Docks when the ships are unloading. I understand that getting there is not too bad as they are looking for fares to get them there. There are not enough cabs in Vancouver to handle a busy day.

You don't say which dock you are leaving from so yes there are a couple of hotels you can walk to Canada Place from but they are really expensive. The rest I wouldn't think so with luggage. I sure wouldn't If you are leaving from Ballantyne there are none.
