when looking at a deck plan scrolling up and down, which end of the ship is at the top of the page? i'm trying to figure out which side my cabin is on. empress deck 7280's.

The Bow (or front) should be at the top. It should look more "pointed" than the stern (or back) then you can tell if you are located on the port (left) or starboard (right) side of the ship.

Your cabin would be on the port side...but to claify a minor point....there is no cabin 7280. There are cabins in the 7280's which is what I hope you mean. Even numbers are on the port side....odd numbers starboard.

yes i meant 7280's , but its been awhile since i've been on a ship..which is side is starboard and which is port???

Well....starboard is the right side and port is the left side. Aft is the back of the ship and forward is the front. So if you have a cabin port forward it would be on the left side toward the front of the ship. Midships is also a term used to describe the middle of the ship.

The best way to remember which is port is that PORT and LEFT both have 4 letters...

what is this area of the ship like, noisy ,quiet, rough, or calm ?

I will let you know...our cabin for the 08/16 Glory is 7283 on the port side. It is really close to midships so the rocking will be less here that forward. I have had aft cabins on some ships and have be disappointed with the engine noise and vibration.
