Well, I didn't suggest to toss out the dress code entirely! I wouldn't think of entering the dining room in shorts, or jeans, or raggedly clothes or something.But I DO still maintain that the *insistence* that men wear tuxes, women wear ball gowns is a bit....pretentious. We've eaten in fine dining rooms with dress codes and haven't been tossed out yet, so I don't suppose we will on our next cruise either.I'm going with my best dressed -- which are NOT fine gowns, but a silk blouse, silk dress trousers, appropriate shoes and jewelry. My husband is wearing a dark suit. If you don't like it...you could always ask to sit at a different table.
