We are on the Golden in April of 2004 and want to know if you can somke in
the cabins or do you have to go on the balcony ? ? ?
Also, can you get a "regular" breakfast delivered to the cabin or is it just a
continental breakfast that you can get ???
Thanks.

Chris,

Smoking isn't limited in the cabins, though you're encouraged to smoke on the balcony in deference to future cruisers who may be smoke sensitive.

As to breakfast, the hang tag menu will only list continental items. However, you can write in anything else you wish that they prepare, or order hot items in the morning. If the kitchen is preparing it, they'll deliver it. Just make sure to tell everything you want. If you want pancakes with butter and syrup, make sure to write pancakes, butter, syrup. They don't presume anything, even logical items.

Thanks BurBunny.
I will make sure we write down everything just to be on the safe side.
Now we have to wait for April to get here. . . . . . . . . . .

Won't the smoke detectors go off in the cabins? My mom couldn't smoke on the Grand in her cabin and had to go out to a few limited areas for smoking. Consequently, she got a balcony cabin the next time and went out there to smoke.

We (my wife and I) are both smokers (boo hiss) and have had no problem smoking in the cabins -- no it will not set off the smoke detector. You will need to ask your cabin steward for an ashtray (or ashtrays). Regarding smoking on the balcony it is allowed, but you are reminded not to through buts over board as they can blow back into the ship which is a fire danger and an annoyance. Additionally, we have had the people in an adjacent cabin complain of our balcony smoking making it impossible for them to use their balcony. When they confronted us (rather than politely asking us) about the problem, I polietly suggested they book three cabin -- the one they stay in and an empty one on each side. We are considerate smokers, but have paid the same fare as our neighbors and we too should be able to enjoy our cruise.

Regarding breakfast, it is true that you can write in any special orders and they will be filled (including fresh juice rather than from a can/carton). Be advised, however, there is one small quirk. While if you go to the Dining Room for brfeakfast you can order Cappiccino or Espresso by the gallon at no charge, if it is delivered by room service you will be charged for it as if you went to the Patesserie. Maybe it is because we have 16 Princess cruises under our belt, but when I complained to the Chief Purser (now called the Hotel Manager I believe) he very graciously credited each and every such charge from our account. (It also might have been that our bar and wine bill almost equalled what we pay for a mini-suite -- something about that sea air that makes one want to drink more -- our most difficult choice is whether to have a Bloody Mary or a Grey Hound (Vodka and Grapefruit Juice) in the morning. If you have problems getting what you want delivered to your room I suggest you first speak to the Room Service Manager (a few bucks in your hand couldn't hurt) or if you meet with resistance than go to the Deputy Purser (not the "Assistant Pursers" who man the desk.

Thank you so very much for all the information.
We have the last mini suite (port side) in the back so I'm guessing the balcony
smoking should not be much of a problem. Regular coffee is fine in the morning
so that will should not be a problem. All we need to do now is WAIT FOR APRIL ....
It is tooooooo far away. I do love the planning end of cruising (my family all call me
Clark Grizwald). I have fun with it anyway. Please, if there are any recommendations
for St.Thomas, St. Maarten, Princess Cays, please send them our way (it is our 1st
time on an Eastern Caribbean cruise).
Thanks again,
