Good morning!
We just returned from the Golden on Saturday and it was absolutely awesome.
This was our 6th cruise, priors on Carnival/Costa
Princess was everything we hoped - service, food, etc. absolutely superb!
We had two balcony cabins on Caribe - 620 and 614 - they were GREAT! Our first balconies, and I believe we're spoiled now!
The ports were great. This was the first time we ventured off on our own and all went well. The taxis were in great supply, clean and friendly!
We went to Orient Beach(bikini beach) which was beautiful other than a few nudies, but each to their own. We parasailed which was awesome.
St. Thomas was beautiful as always - went to Coki beach for great snorkeling and rented waverunners. Great day!
This leads me to the reason for the post....if anyone reading this is considering renting their own scooters/jeeps on the islands, PLEASE RECONSIDER. We saw a horrific accident involvling fellow Princess cruisers in St. Thomas who were riding a scooter.
they were riding on the wrong side of the road and ran head on into a tour taxi. Awful.
The roads on both islands are EXTREMELY narrow and hard to navigate. We also saw several jeeps with tourists in them - lost and reading maps on the side of the road. Doesn't sound like a relaxing day to me? Please get a taxi and let them do the driving. They are very friendly and will take you anywhere you want to go and are relatively inexpensive. If this keeps anyone off of scooters/jeeps I'll be happy. I'll never forget that accident and we never did hear how the passengers fared. :(
Anyway, thanks for listening ... our cruise was spectacular and we will DEFINITELY cruise with Princess again.
Oh..Princess Cays was awesome, also!
Have a great day and happy cruising!

... Not much to my surprise, many people get killed or severly injured. It just doesn't get any media attention. People try to be cowboys on these waverunners and decide to go parasailing or in Hawaii decide to go with groups that get up at two AM in the morning and take to rest of the morning hiking up an active volcano with their bicycles and riding down hill at tremendous speeds unless you hold the brake handles the entire way down. (which is a lousy thing to do anyhow.)

Mind you the "roads" are the same as the ones in St Thomas. Hairpin turns, severly steep hills and roads that give new meaning to the word "switchbacks" (they are like u-turns but are still part of the beatin path.) (spelling) I wondered how in the hell do they pave these mountains to make roads out of them.

These have resulted in death and severe injury for many vacationers.

It's a shame.

So glad you enjoyed the Golden, we really liked being on that ship. It was so well manintained and the crew, and service was great.

Another thing to be watchful for when renting scooters is to make sure you get a written recept upon return. My daughter and son n law did not, and were charged a fee to the account of $500. They did call the Visa Co. and explain everything, but it took months to clear up. A lesson that they learned.
