Have not been on a cruise for almost 15 years. I went on the Ecstasy and Fantasy, carnival.
Not cruising for such a long time, I was pleasantly surprised at how things have changed. I am not sure whether this is just due to princess.
Negatives - only a few
Showers, oh my god, how does one go about shaving their legs. It was a miracle I never had an accident. I also wondered at how some of the larger passengers even got to wash themselves.
No, snack bar, would have been nice to take some pretzels, nuts, etc back to room to relax and have a drink with.
No soft icecream offered.
No activities on deck, didn't even get to see who the cruise director was.
Bathrooms, if you were on the upper deck by the pool, you had to go downstairs and around.
Rocking and rolling - first formal night we were swaying into each other trying to get our pictures taken. Very shocked and can't remember this happening on past cruises. This would really deter me from cruising again. Last few days were not as bad as first few. I guess it helped that we had a port a day.
Positives
Definately getting on the ship and getting off. Very organized. Other cruise lines could learn alot from this.
Staff - with exception of a few, excellent treatment.
Pools - 4, so we never felt crowded.
Value for money spent
Food - ok. Did not go on the cruise for food. For the amount of people on ship, they did a good job.
Ship was very clean and did not show any signs of wear and tear, carpet, rooms, etc.
I would go again on this ship and possibly do the other itinerary.
I did get to hear alot of conversations comparing between carnival, royal c. and celebrity. Hands down, I did some comparisons $ wise and princess won out. We were able to afford a balcony room and it gave us great opportunity to sit out on it and watch us take off to next destination. Some of the views when we woke up next morning were terrific.
I would like to know if someone has gone on the Grand and the Golden and what their thoughts are. While at the airport a couple was telling me that they thought the service was better on the grand and they had more pool activities.
I would like to try celebrity in the future but their southern carribean cruise itinerary stopped in April this year.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me or post here.
