Golden Princess-smoking and outdoor eating

I just read a review posted about Golden Princess. I am sailing next Saturday, April 3. To my disappointment, somebody claimed that most or all of the balcony cabins smell of smoke and there is public smoking in various areas throughout the ship. Is this true?

Also, is it true that there is nowhere to eat outside on the ship. According to this person if you eat in the Horizon court there is no place to bring your tray outside and eat. How about the pool area?? No tables there?

Also, this person said dinner reservations are for 5:30 or 8:30 because people book for the whole week at the same time. Why bother doing personal choice dining then? this doesn't make sense to me.

Could someone who has been on Golden elaborate.

At the back of Horizon Court, you can walk out the back and there are tables at the Alfresco Lounge. Many people eat there. There are also tables near the pools for eating pizza or you can bring your tray from Horizon Court there.

You don't have to do reservations for Anytime Dining. This is for people who want the same table at the same time all week. The advantage is you can have a standing reservation at the time of your choice, say 7:30pm, instead of having to adhere to the tradtional dining schedule of 6:30pm and 8:30pm.

There are no "non-smoking" cabins, but whatever they do, you cannot tell whether someone has been smoking in the cabin or not. Hotels should use whatever cruiseships do to get rid of the smokey smell...especially when there is usually only a couple of hours between the time one guest leaves and the next guest arrives. People are allowed to smoke on their balconies and on the starboard side of the ship, outside. There a few places inside where smoking is permitted...the casino is one of them.

Peeanutsc, I too read that review, but I dismissed it because we have been on the Grand Princess which being the sister ship of the Golden has the same lay out. There are serveral places to eat outside so all I could think when I read that reveiw is " what on earth is this person talking about?"
That poster also went on about feeling claustaphjobic on the Golden, there again I thought this poster is off base. So don't worry , not all reveiws are accurate.

I think you understand this now, but you have the choice of picking an assigned seating time (main or late) OR you can choose the PC dining (eat whenever you want). There are certain dining rooms for each. They will let you know which one to go to for which ever option you are choosing.
