Golden (Southern-exp) vs. Navigator (Eastern)

Hi. Its been "a while" since I have been through this message board. I missed it.

Trying to decide in May between Navigator out of Miami and Golden out of San Juan. Both with balcony. Navigator would be cheaper (with airfare difference), and a different type of ship for me (I have been on Grand - and liked it.) (loved the aft-multi tiered deck on Grand)Golden has a more attractive itinerary.

Any experiences out there for comparison? Food, shows, crowding?

I am beckoning the "gods and godesses of cruising"!

Thanks.

Hi,
It depends on your age and what you like on sailings...I have sailed from san juan and wouldnt do it again, although I loved the grand class ship...the navigator is larger and has more activities for families. I have done the voyager and adventurer, which are both the same...alot of fun...but again, the golden is a bit more elegant and if you are just a couple with no kids, I would go for the golden or grand on princess.

Had the same choice to make, Navigator or Golden? We went with the Golden, just looked liked a better itinerary! It's a tough decision! :USA:AL

Hi Jasmine,

I am very curious as to why you would not sail out of San Juan again?

Thanks for your reply

We as a couple chose the Golden Princess for our next cruise because of the Grand class ships and because it was sailing out of San Juan. A group of couples only that cruise together meets there . We have only sailed Princess and adore the cruise line..and all the extra perks we now command..:grin...As we are going the first 2 weeks of Feb and Princess limits the number of kids it has on board as it's Valentines week ,and not school breaks time, and due to extra cost to fly to San Juan versus Fort Lauderdale we figure it limits the amount of kids on board even more. Our kids are all grown and we enjoy the more adult and fewer kids atmosphere on Princess.. I will also add that all the kids we have seen on our cruises have been very sweet, polite and well behaved which is SUPER!!!...It does cost more to fly there and we get the Southern most Islands for added warmth on the cruise..I live in Vermont..In February ....I CRAVE the sun....:grin...Have fun choosing..I'm not particularly fond of San Juan as parts of it are seedy but if you use your head and stay in public areas the problems are minimal...enjoy the cruise research fun..:)..Joanne.

Unfortunately, if you want to do the Southern Caribbean, I don't think there is anyway to avoid San Juan. Many people have heard bad things about the experiences at the San Juan airport. I think that is the major cause of anxiety.

We are going on the Golden 5/904, which I believe is the first sailing for the Golden for the particular itinerary (San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Kitts, Grenada, Aruba and Caracas (probably a substituted port due to political unrest and Venezuela's President being extremely ticked at the Bush administration right now).
