I was on the riviera deck in cabins 1330 and 1334 and got upgraded to 8D (Lido deck) cabins 9257 and 9253. I am assuming it is still outside but I don't know if it is better. I am assuming the deck is better but do I have a balcony? I think that would be asking to much.....how do I find - and understand deck plans?

This I think is what you are looking for. It looks like you got a balcony!

Thanks. It does look like it. I am so excited. It doesn't look like we have adjoining rooms and my kids will be in one, but I don't want to go back to the riveira deck and lose my balcony! I didn't book a guarantee so I didn't expect to get upgraded! But I got an email today with the new cabin numbers!! Christmas came early

If you booke a cabin # how could you get upgraded? I thought that was only with a Guaranty and when u book a Guaranty u dont get a cabin # until the pier

Cole,

I found out that my husband's personal assistant who has traveled on Carnival several times called them and told them what my husband does. He is by no means a celeb but he does do the voices for some cartoons, if you have don't have preschool kids you won't know what I am talking about but one is called Bob the Builder. Someone with upgrading abitlty must have young children who like the show! I had no idea about guaranteed cabins or the likes when I booked I just booked myself an outside cabin and wasn't to concerned about anything else. Then I got onto message boards and found out about guarantees. Anyway that is the story behind my upgrade.

Having an assigned cabin does not preclude the possibility of receiving an upgrade. It usually happens when high end cabins are selling slowly, while there is a high demand for lower end cabins. Also, a guarantee status does not necessarily mean that one will not receive a cabin assignment prior to arriving at the pier. In every case in which I booked a guarantee, I was able to confirm my cabin assignment about a week prior to sailing.

I'm not positive (as I'm still a relative newbie myself!) but isn't it a little more rare to get upgraded when you have 2 rooms booked? Seems like the chances for an upgrade when the cruise line would have to relocate the persons to 2 rooms close to each other would be a challenge for them!

He worked in London for years doing voices and bbc radio shows etc. He had done several cartoon series there. Bob the Builder was already a cartoon in London and they were looking to revoice it for the American audience and he happened to be in the right place at the right time. It is so much more about who you know than what you know... We also have a production company that does radio shows, and produce audiobooks. If it isn't already get your voice out there - commercials, books etc....small field and lots of competition. Celebs are starting to do it more and more.
