Grand Cabin 501

I have a chance to get great deal on a cruise on the Grand out of Galveston December of 2004. It's on the Caribe deck and is stateroom 501. We enjoy midship, so this location looks pretty good to us, but I see it's very close to the elevator. Anyone ever stay in 501 or 502? Advice please.

Thanks

I have never stayed near an elevator, but I am going on the Grand this November. I orignally had a cabin on the Baja deck, nyumber 425 (mid ship, inside) right next to an elevator and I asked the same queastion as you. People told me that you will not have a problem, you just hear the elevator talk once in a while saying what deck it is letting people off at. That is, if your door is open. You should be fine. I moved to the Aloha deck, cabin 517 for $20 more because it is a bigger inside cabin so I will not be near the elevator anymore. If it worries you, I am sure there are other cabins avaiable mid ship on the same deck. You should ask.

C501 is a great cabin, take it. It may look close in the picture, but you'll discover that it's not really that close, it's around the corner and through the bulkhead. The lobby for that set of elevators is actually across from C421. You won't hear a thing as far as elevator noise from your cabin. ...and you get the double sized balcony since it's on caribe.

I've had a cabin right at the elevators on Dolphin (D416) and didn't hear a thing. Now, I request that location, as it is so convenient!

See, D416 and those are great because they are outside cabins. The one I was booked at, B425 was an inside cabin right next to the panaromic lifts that look to be touching the elevator. Made me nervous that i would hear it everytime it went passed the room. I was going to deal with it until I decided to take the larger inside cabin a deck up. Now I am worried about seasickness because of how high up I am, but I don't think the one deck would have made a difference anyway.

We've had cabins right near elevators on both the Grand and the Golden.
No noise, no problem at all. Great, convenient location!

See, i had no problem with being in that cabin right by the elevator, but that cabin was 160 square feet and a cabin on the next floor up (Aloha) opened up (still inside), but was 182 square feet. One of their odd oversized inside cabnns and it was only a total of $20 more for my husband and myself. I figured I shouldn't pass that up considering those rooms are so small to begin with. I just hope being up so high does not cause me to feel too much motion as I tend to get sick (I will be wearing the patch, but in the past, in storms, the patch did no goo). Hopefully, because of the size of this ship, I will notice little to no motion at all no matter where I am at.
