If we want to go to Seven Mile Beach, is it best to take a tour or just jump in a taxi and go?

It's just north of the dock. They have shuttle (Vans) taxis that will take you right there.

If all you want to do is go to the beach, then it is less expensive to do it yourself (take a taxi). If there are other portions of the tour that interest you, then take the tour.
