In our previous cruises we have always taken the ships tours. I would like to go to Seven Mile beach by taxi and enjoy the day without having to pay a tour fee or a fee to one of the hotels. Are there public access areas at Seven mile beach? I have not seen any information on this subject.

Thanks for any info

We went to Seven Mile Beach after getting married that morning in Grand Cayman. We had a taxi take us and they stopped at the first drop-off point which is through the Royal Palms restaurant. It cost $3 to get in per person. It was great.

The taxi driver can list off all the different areas you can enter the beach and they know the price and atmosphere of each place. We picked the Royal Palms because we had been looking at their webcams for weeks and knew exactly what it would look like.

I don't believe you can go wrong with 7-Mile beach. We thought it put Trunk Bay to shame.

Another nice option is to rent a car and visit Rum point or the beach by Morritt's Grand or Tortuga Club. Its out of the way and the drive is really nice.

We've rented through Cico Avis they have really nice cars, have service right from the port area and good rates, even an inclusive rate that includes gas, local licenes etc.

If you want to see some photo of the beaches, here is a nice link:

We were in Grand Cayman two weeks ago. When you get off the ship to the port thing there were a bunch of people holding up signs. We went to a guy who had a sign that said "Public Beach" and got on his shuttle bus. He took us to a public beach and we didn't have to pay or anything. There were water sports and stuff, but you had to pay to use those. (Paddle boats, waverunners) We just had to pay the driver $6 each. Then when you were ready to go back to the ship, there were little shuttle buses waiting to bring you back. They PACK you into those shuttle buses!!
