Hi. Does anyone know how old the Grand Princess is? Is it a relatively new ship?

Thanks,
Luke

Yep, launched in 1998. I was on her in 2001, she was a few years old and in wonderful condition. We loved that ship.

Still in good shape in the public areas, some of the cabins need a little updating.

Just returned from Baltic cruise on Grand Princess. My first cruise on Grand but others in our party had sailed her before. All were quite disappointed in the food and other type services. Don't believe any of us would said Princess again.

What is it about the Grand Princess that you didn't like? I have plans to take it in March 05. I have sailed 2X on the Rhapsody of the Seas RCCL and loved it so much. My parents loved the Rhapsody too, and are nervious about sailing on a ship that has mixed reviews. We are sailing out of Galveston. Sure wish that RCCL had a Voyager class ship sailing out of Galveston.

Im not about to suggest that moonm didnt actually experience bad service or a bad sailing... but I would instead suggest that you go to the review section here, or any other cruise-info board, and read several reviews. This will give you a better overall picture, and lots of opinions to weigh. Everyone can have a bad experience now and then, and its really unfortunate since we pay a pretty penny for a cruise. See what the reviews say, gather and tally the positives and negatives....

Loved the Grand, so much so that we sailed on her "sister" ship the Golden this year.Princess knows how to keep their ships in great shape.

Agreed p.q. Golden is a gorgeous ship. Debbie and I had a great time on her for the Canada/ NE cruise. I wouldn't mind doing the same thing soon. I went only to sail on a grand class ship.

As stated above, the Grand was built in 1998.

My friend was just on it two weeks ago in the Baltic and said it needs refurbishment. She's 6 yrs. old and it's getting a bit worn. Once it has a 'facelift', I'm sure she'll look as good as new!

Ships built in 1998 are not considered old by me. I have sailed the ship many times and have found the ship delightful. I am scheduled to sail again out of Galveston this winter. All ships need refurbishment every year or two.

Sailed the Grand in Oct 2003. She was in great shape. I would have thought the Grand would have looked good in the Baltic no matter what shape she was in.

I guess it all depends on what you consider 'old', as we've all gone over that topic many times and everyone has a different concept of "old".

Luke, if you're asking if the Grand is worth sailing, then the answer is "yes!". Does she look and feel like a brand new car? No. It all depends on what you're looking for. If you want a ship that is really new, opt for a different ship. If you're okay with a ship being 6 yrs. old, then go for it! :)
