GROUND TRANSPORTATION-NEWARK AIRPORT

Need some advice. We're booked on the Carnival Pride RT from NY to Bermuda on August 6th and we're flying into the Newark Airport from Des Moines, Iowa. Carnival wants $74 apiece for transfer from the airport to the ship. I'm taking my daughter and her family and for seven people this is quite expensive. My TA suggested the Super Shuttle out of the Newark airport, but they do not take reservations over the phone. Is there anyone out there who has transfered from that airport to a ship in Manhatten? I hate to wait until we get there to try and find transportation to the ship, as we're not coming in a day early. I've been on a lot of cruises and this is the first time I've been quoted a price of $74 for a transfer. When I called Carnival and talked to them, they just said, well you know, you are in New York; everythings expensive there. I've never been to NY, but I just can't imagine the transfers costing that much. Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks. HAPPY CRUISING....

Buddy7 - Take the monorail from the airport over to the Newark NJTransit Train Station. (The monorail goes directly to the station.) Hop on the train (not sure of the price, but it shouldn't be more than a couple dollars) and the next stop is Penn Station NYC. Get off the train here and go to the street level where you can jump into a taxi to the Port. This usually costs about $10 with the tip. You may have to take 2 taxis with 5 of you plus your luggage. We have fit in 1 cab with 4 adults and luggage. Guess it depends on how much you take with you. Hope this helps you out. It will surely cost you alot less than $74pp!!! You will love cruising out of NYC. You go past the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Be sure to be on the top deck when passing under the bridge - it is amazing how close you come to it!!! Have a wonderful trip.

The train tends to be a pain if your carrying around a weeks worth of luggage. I would suggest you grab a taxi at Newark and take it directly to the ship. If you get in a taxi line they have fixed rates into Manhattan + tolls. I think it is $45 dollars + $6 toll + tip. Be sure you are in a taxi line and the dispatcher gives you a yellow folder with the fare on it!! They have plenty of vans at Newark airport so getting your party of 5 to the port should not be a problem.

Beware of people offering you rides as you exit the terminals. Most of them are not licensed taxi drivers and they are not insured. Make sure you go to the taxi line!
