Guarantee Room Assignment??

I am booked on the Glory at a "Balcony Guarantee". Now I know they say that you won't find out till sailing date on where your room is at. Now do they actually wait till sailing date to assign you a room...or do they do this a few weeks prior and just not tell you till the actual date of sail. I just was wondering if I could find out before hand whether our stateroom is towards the front, back or middle so I could prepare myself with the proper amount of dramamine...

Oops also forgot to ask...I noticed online that they seem to be sold out of balcony rooms on the Sept. 20th sailing on the Glory...does that more than likely mean that we would be getting an upgrade. Does that usually mean just higher up??

We have known our room number for three months now, but my parents didn't know until they boarded. So I am not sure how the assignment works.

Cabin assignments are usually made a couple of weeks prior to sailing. Check with your TA within that time frame and he will usually be able to get the information for you.

As for what type of cabin you get, it will at least be the Cat. you have the guarantee for or BETTER. They only go up in Cat. not down.

Are all the balcony rooms private balconies....as in there is no way that someone from the room next door come around their balcony and peek into yours??? Just really wondering how much privacy we really have?????

We also have a guarantee room on the Glory set for Nov. 8th. We actually have a guarantee for 4F inside cabin. We were actually disappointed at the time of booking that we could only get a guarantee for that category. We had hoped to be on the Lido deck close to the elevators because my grandmother has bad knees and we usually spend most of our time on that deck. Now we may be "upgraded" to a cabin on deck 1 or 2 with an oceanview, which we'd rather not have. So at this point we are just keeping our fingers crossed that we stay on the Lido deck.

I'm not book on Glory until next June, but I already have my cabin number.

The balconies are private but only to a degree as one only has to lean slightly over the railing at which time you can see into a neighboring balcony.

Maggie, you don't have a category guarantee if you already know your cabin number a year in advance. Usually, a cruise line will assign the cabins to guarantees within the last 2 weeks before the cruise. However, they can still make changes up until 72 hours before the final manifest is complete. It is rare today, that cabins are available to purchase or upgrade to at the port. Your TA may be able to get your cabin assignment shortly after your docs arrive.

Nanatravel - so the cruiseline makes all the cabin decisions, correct? Does the TA have any input into what cabin you might get if you booked guarantee? I would like to know if there are any "tricks" that might get you a really super-duper upgrade if you booked a guarantee room. And how exactly does the cruise line assign all those guarantee rooms? Is it random?

I received my tickets a couple of days ago. I booked directly with Carnival so I don't have a travel agent. Do you think I could contact Carnival now and they would have my cabin number? I sail on Sept. 20

My TA told me when we booked that Carnival was only issuing "guaranteed" cabins in the category we requested. I'm guessing it may have had something to do with us booking only 3 months in advance (considering some folks book over a year in advance) maybe the ship was filling up. Regardless, of course we asked how they do the assignment of rooms. My TA said Carnival uses a combination of the volume of business the agency does with them, if the guests booked are past guests, and time booking was made. Now my TA did stress that that is what Carnival TELLS her agency. Who knows if they actually follow that policy. It could be a completely random process using a computer (which seems more believable to me). I suppose you'd have to call Carnival directly to find out.

Asheley's understanding is basically the same as mine for many cruise lines. Only book a guarantee if it really does not matter to you where your cabin will be and that you can be satisfied with the worst or least desireable cabin in the class that you paid for. If you book the lowest priced inside category, be prepared to have a cabin in the bow at the bottom of the ship. I like to know where my cabin is located, so don't do guarantees often.

Nanatravel, I understand that when you book inside cabin, you can get a cabin where the buses don't run. On our first cruise on the Holiday, we ended in one of those cabins. I remember it had bunkbeds. We didn't care then, we still became hooked on cruises. Now I booked balcony guarantee on the Glory. What is the worst and least desireable balcony one can get on the Glory? It seems to me all balconies should be fairly decent rooms.

I see you are sailing on the 20th of September. I will be also on the Carnival Victory to New England/Canada. You?
