Guarantee Room

Hi!

We booked a guarantee room for the first time for our cruise on the Elation in May 2006. We've already received a document confirming this booking. My question is: If we are to find out the stateroom number when we board the ship, what do we put on our baggage tags before giving our bags to the porter on the docks? What if we decide to upgrade once onboard? How are they going to know where our bags are to be delivered?

It feels like a silly question, but we do not want our luggage to be left behind or get lost somewhere on the ship.

Thanks!

BEFORE you give your luggage to any porter you will ask that porter to look on the manifest to see where your cabin is located.

Print out address labels to attach to the luggage tags--- with a sharpie marker write your cabin number.

Cabins should be et within 72 hours before sailing.
There are ways to find out a cabin number. Most times cabins are set 45 days before sailing.
fill out your funpass and get that completed asap.

Ditto. We always go guarentee and the porters have always had to change our tags because we always get an upgrade. Pat

Thank you so much for the information. We will get the luggage tags ready and have a sharpie on hand.

In the meantime, we have already registered everything online and completed the FunPass. Now we hope they add the excursions we're interested in and wait.

You asked about upgrades once you board the ship..... This would be a very rare thing. Almost all Carnival ships sail at full capacity. There's always a sign at the purser's desk "No cabins available." IF there was a cabin, you'd have to pay the full advertised price - no discounts.

I did not know that, Blue Chef. Thanks for the information.

I phoned the TA and she said that I should not worry about getting the "worst" placement. She assured me that, although she is unable to confirm the stateroom number at this time, our stateroom is in a nice spot. Exactly what her take on a "nice spot on the ship" is, well, I guess I'll see when I board.

In any case, I won't let it put a damper on my vacation.

If your punpass is filled out you can see if your cabin has been assigned yet..
go to carnival web page - scroll to the bottom and click on funpass.
fill in your last name, ship date.etc submit.
next screen you want to view gifts. add anything at all to your cart. (you will not be charged for it til you add in CC inforamtion)
if your cabin has been set you will see an assignment on the next screen.
if it has nto been set you will see GTEE

Hey! I just tried it and it does work as serene56 said. My booking number is there and stateroom number is "GUAR". So, I can only assume that my room hasn't been assigned as of yet. :-( I was hoping to see what the TA was talking about. Oh well.... I'll give this a try in another month or so. Maybe something will be set by then.

I would bet that your agent dont know what she is talking about...lol just trying to keep you happy. If there was an ssignment why wouldnt she tell you?

Cabins are usually assigned about 45 days. Rare does it happen at 60 but it does.

I see taht final payment is coming due.. and even rarer are cabins assigned before that.
Carnival likes to see whats available and start movin gpeople around about 10 days after that payment..(lots of people cancel now so not to incur penalties)

I'm thinking you are right, serene56. The TA did keep me happy! lololol

Anyway, I just made that final payment last week. So, I'll keep checking until I find out if they post it or not. A simple way to see if I get what the TA tried to assure me of in the first place.

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.

Just went to carnival web page and scrolled to the bottom, then clicked on funpass. Filled in the information requested and clicked to view the gift section again. Clicked on the beverage card and -- WOW! There is was -- my "guarantee" room is now showing as R1.

If this is our cabin assignment, we've been upgraded. Not what I expected from speaking with the TA a few days back, but still not just an inside room at the back of the ship. At least DH and I will have two portholes.

May 2005 we took an Alaskan Cruise with Holland America. If I'm not mistaken, this is fairly close to the same spot I'd book then. Not all the way in the front, but still a stateroom toward the front of the ship with two portholes.

Anyway, serene56, thanks for the tip on finding my room assignment early.

not many agents know of that little secret.
In the past 2 years this is the 3rd way that a person can check on a cabin assignment. Carnival keeps changing it.

Be Aware that the cabin can change up to sailing.

But 99% chance that it your cabin-- have a great cruise
