"guaranteed" stateroom questions?

DH and I are opting to do the "oceanview guarantee" thing on Carnival-- it's cheaper than the 6A stateroom we planned to get, and we don't really care whether or not we're actually upgraded.

Are there any hidden downsides?

By choosing a "guarantee", you agree to be placed in any Oceanview [or higher] cabin they choose. If your main desire is to "get on the ship"...and you have no concern where Carnival places you...no "downsides".

Nah, your just gonna get an ocean view stateroom somewhere on the ship. Having said that however, there is always a possibility that 'ya just might get lucky and end up with a balcony.

depends on the ship- some ships you could be directly on top of a lounge--or the disco even.
Some ships have the oceanviews on the direct front of the ship which are obstructed. There are a few that the beds dont get pushed together.

Spirit class ships have only 2 decks of oceanview cabins.. But some cabins are next door to the disco.

If its your first cruise and you really dont care where you are located then book a guarantee.

We booked our last cruise on January 20th,2006. We sailed on January 22, 2006. 3 staterooms were available, all interior. We opted for the one on the empress deck and ended up directly over the Casino. We could hear the machines. We just didn't go to bed until most of the action was over.
On the good side, we walked down one flight of stairs and were in the Casino.
If you go to bed early, you may want to choose a cabin!!!! Who goes to bed early on a cruise?

We had booked a OV guarantee on the Glory last September and were upgraded to a balcony which was in an excellent location..go figure..but they are so smart..do you think I can book anything other than a balcony now/
