Guardianship

My DH and I have guardianship of a 16 year old. We are going on the Conquest July 20, 2003. The guardianship papers issued by the judge are signed but are not notarized. Do you think this will be a problem?
Should I consider getting the judge to get me a notarized document?

Thanks for all the help....

I would think if you have legal papers signed by the judge that you have guardianship there must be some type of stamp or mark to show them as official documents. I don't know of court papers that a judge signs that would have to be notarised. You may want to have your TA call Carnival and see if these documents need any other type of marking.

Last year we took one, and this year we are taking 2 18yr old guys along with our 18 yr old son. The guys are residents of a local Boys Ranch group home. We had a notorized parental release / medical authorization form last year, and are going to do the same this year - *just in case*. Also, make sure that you have a raised-seal, certified copy of the child's birth certificate. Have fun!

I have never seen any document signed by a judge that needs to be notarized. (I work as a paralegal in a family law firm in Arizona). The document you have should be fine, but to be on the safe side, I would contact the court and see if you can get a 'certified' copy of the document. There will probably be a fee, but it may be nice to have a certified copy. around anyway....just in case! I think the 'certified' copy of the birth certificate would be a good idea too, if you don't already have one.

Thanks so much. Yes we have her certified bith certificate and she has her drivers license. I will contact the court and see if I can get something certified or notarized.

You may want to check the copy the court gave you at the time the guardianship was established....it may be certified. Also, don't forget your letters of guardianship! (My boss...the attorney... said you'd need those too.)

Have a great time!!

As long as the order you have signed by the Judge has a raised seal you should be OK. If not call the Court where the guardianship was established and ask the Court Clerk for a Certified Copy of the Order Appointing Guardianship. It may cost you $5-$20, depending on the Courts fees but it would be worth it. If you have time getting a passport may be an alternative. Children 16 and older are required by Carnival to have picture ID. If you don't want a passport your state may offer State ID. Check with your Secretary of State Office or the Post Office. They will be able to direct you to the right department.

A passport would be a good idea, but you'll still need the guardianship papers....anyone under 18 traveling out of the country needs to have BOTH parents (or in this case, guardians) permission.

If you have the time, you can just go down to the court and you can get a certified copy on the spot. Peanuts is right....it'll be $5-20, depending on what state you're in.
