Holland america offers free Verandah Upgrade on Winter/Spring 2004 Caribbean Cruises

Seattle, July 8, 2003 – Holland America is offering free upgrades to Deluxe Verandah Outside staterooms or Superior Verandah Suites on winter and spring 2004 Caribbean cruises aboard the line’s two Vista-class ships, ms Zuiderdam and ms Oosterdam. Guests must book their cruise by August 31, 2003 to take advantage of this special-value promotion.

For example, guests who book an outside stateroom will be upgraded to a Deluxe Verandah Outside stateroom at no additional cost, and guests reserving a Category A Deluxe Verandah Outside stateroom will be upgraded to a Superior Verandah Suite. The verandahs are true balconies with plenty of space for guests to lounge, sunbathe, have breakfast or enjoy the passing scene in complete privacy.

“Holland America is offering the perfect opportunity for guests to enjoy the enhanced experience of cruising in a stateroom with a verandah,†said Joseph Slattery, vice president of marketing, North America, Holland America Line.

The verandah promotion applies to the Zuiderdam’s Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises departing Jan. 3 through May 29 and the Oosterdam’s Eastern and Western Caribbean sailings January 4 through April 11, 2004. All are seven-day cruises sailing roundtrip from Ft. Lauderdale.

Aboard the two 1,848-passenger Vista-class ships, 67 percent of each ship’s 924 staterooms feature the popular verandahs. The greatest number of staterooms – 461 – is in the Deluxe Verandah Outside category, representing the cruise industry's best value in verandah staterooms.

The Zuiderdam, currently Holland America’s year-round ship in the Caribbean, will offer 13 eastern Caribbean cruises on which the verandah upgrade applies. It also applies to 4 Western Caribbean sailings (Apr 17-May 29). Departing Saturdays from Ft. Lauderdale, the ship’s eastern Caribbean ports of call include Half Moon Cay, Holland America’s award-winning private island paradise; St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; and Tortola, British Virgin Islands, a new port for Holland America in 2004. Western Caribbean sailings’ ports of call include Key West, Fla.; Cozumel, Mexico; George Town, Grand Cayman and Half Moon Cay.

The Oosterdam will alternate eastern and western Caribbean itineraries with 15 Sunday departures from Ft. Lauderdale. Eastern ports of call include Philipsburg, St. Maarten and Tortola, British Virgin Islands and Half Moon Cay; Western ports are Ocho Rios, Jamaica; George Town, Grand Cayman; Cozumel, Mexico and Half Moon Cay.

Cruise-only fares for an outside stateroom, upgradeable to a Deluxe Verandah Outside stateroom on the promotion, start at just US$ $969[CAN $1,272] per person, double occupancy. Offer applies to new bookings made under Holland America’s Early Savings rate. Upgrades based on available space at time of booking.

They're also offering some interesting upgrades on Maasdam's Caribbean cruises out of Norfolk - must be booked by September 30, 2003.

These are called and booked differently but look like they will cost about the same as the special promotions they've had all summer for the CAT S suites on the Zuiderdam. But I liked this summer promotion better because you could book a particular suite. There are some you might not want to book if given an option -- like the ones right by the glass elevators. And some people prefer the bigger suites with the still ample sized balcony mid-ship rather than an aft suite with a larger balcony, smaller cabin and less privacy on parts of the balcony.

I guess like everything else about cruising it depends what is important to you. We want to have the cabin/deck/location we like and then will decide on which cruise and ship has the best deal for that. But some people look at price first and will accept any cabin they are assigned. If we find good prices on a suite, mid-ship, near the Neptune Lounge we will then decide if that is a ship and cruise we want to go on. Others' priorities are different. No one is right and no one is wrong- it's all personal preference.
