Half Moon Cabana question

I saw this in a review "Were the first to arrive on the island, got a cabana & float--no problem."

I was under the impression that the cabanas were offered to PS and S passengers (for a cost) and had to be booked onboard. We were planning to get one for our upcoming Zuiderdam cruise on 9/20.

Can someone give more information?

I believe anyone (regardless of cabin) can book one if they are available. P and PS cabins get first choice - if not booked it's anyone's game.

Going on HAL for the first time August 30 - this is what I have read on the boards.

Have a great cruise

The reference in the review is not a cabana.

Sue is referring to wooden cabanas HAL built on the beach at HMC. They are fabulous and we had the use of one last summer when on Maasdam.

They are a very luxurious, comfortable way to "go to the beach".

Each cabana (I think there are now three of them) has a counter along the back wall with a sink and cabinets (one with a lock if you wish to secure something) and on the counter they place very attractive platters of salsa and chips; fruit; veggies...

Each has air conditioning, small frig; ice chest with beer, soft drinks, water. Nice rattan table and four chairs. Rental is $125 (approx) for two persons and $25 pp extra to a maximum of six people.

Each person gets a floating mat, snorkeling gear....

Beautiful floral bouquet on table.

They are first offered for rental to "PS" and "S". IF on a particular cruise, they are not rented by those cabins, perhaps they are then available (through shore excursion office) to other cabins. But, I would think they are scooped up quickly by "PS" or "S".
Make arrangements through Concierge in Neptune Lounge, if you wish.

The other reference is simply to canvas covers to provide shade on the beach. They are big enough to just fit two lounges under.

Guess I will be getting the canvas covers !

Is there any shade on the beach from trees or do you have to get the canvas cover if you don't want to fry to a crisp:? What do they charge to rent the canvas cover or are they free:?

Canvas covers are no charge and there are some palms that provide shade. The earlier you get to the beach, the more options available.

Hammocks in the shade of palm trees are heavenly. :)
