Earn Bonus Cruise Day Credits

Increase your Mariner Star status simply by enjoying your cruise.

In addition to earning Cruise Day credits for each actual day sailed, there are also easy ways you can earn bonus Cruise Day credits. The more Cruise Day credits you collect, the faster you increase your Mariner Star status, and the more exciting rewards you’ll receive.
  • Suite Bonus When you book a spacious suite on your next cruise, you’ll not only enjoy special amenities, but you also qualify for double Cruise Day credits. For instance, guests who pay full fare for suite accommodations on a 10-day cruise earn 20 Cruise Day credits.
  • Onboard Spending Bonus You may think you’re just enjoying all of the amenities Holland America Line is known for. But in fact, you’re earning valuable bonus Cruise Day credits. For every $300 in onboard purchases you make over the duration of your journey, you’ll earn one bonus Cruise Day credit. Bonus Cruise Day credits are calculated on the combined charges for all guests sharing a stateroom, regardless of who signs each charge and who pays the bill. At the end of the cruise, all guests in the stateroom receive the same number of Cruise Day credits. There is a limit of one bonus Cruise Day credit for each
    day sailed.

FAQs

QA.jpg
What is the new Mariner Society Rewards Program?
Holland America's new Mariner Society Rewards Program provides valuable benefits to our guests based on cruise days, onboard purchases, and "double days" for guests who purchase a suite. The collective days earned based on these three criteria are knows as "cruise day credits." All guests are automatically enrolled in the program after their first completed cruise. There are four levels – Star Mariner, 2-Star Mariner, 3-Star Mariner and 4-Star Mariner – each with a unique set of benefits.
QA.jpg
When does the new program take effect?
Ships are scheduled to be upgraded to accomodate the new benefits.
Loyalty-Launch-Schedule.jpg

QA.jpg
How do I join the program? Do I need to register?
No registration is required. All Mariners (past guests of Holland America Line) are enrolled automatically and will receive benefits starting with their second cruise.
QA.jpg
How is the number of cruise day credits calculated?
The basic formula is very simple: one cruise day credit is given for each actual day sailed (each overnight aboard a Holland America Line vessel is considered an actual day sailed). So, for example, a 7-day cruise results in 7 cruise day credits. For Holland America Line Alaska and Yukon cruisetours, a cruise day credit is granted for total tour days, including days touring on land. Pre and Post cruise packages are excluded.
These credits apply to all guests, including 3rd and 4th guests in a stateroom. In addition, there are two ways to earn bonus days:
  • Suite Bonus When you book a spacious suite on your next cruise you'll not only enjoy special amenities, but you'll also qualify for double cruise day credits. For example, a guest who pays full fare for suite accommodations for a 10-day cruise earns 20 cruise day credits.
  • Onboard Spending Bonus Effective with cruises on or after September 18, 2009, one bonus cruise day credit will be granted for each $300 in onboard purchases. This is calculated on the combined folio charges for all guests on the booking, regardless of who signs each charge and who pays the bill. There is a limit of one bonus day for each day sailed, and 3rd and 4th guests on the same booking do not earn the onboard spending bonus.

QA.jpg
Will I receive credit for cruises taken in the past?
Yes, guests receive Cruise Day credits for all previous Holland America Line cruises and Alaska cruisetours. Bonus Cruise Day credits for suite purchases and onboard spending is a new feature applied to sailings departing on or after September 18, 2009.
QA.jpg
What happens if I have already earned a specific Mariner Society Rewards level within the old program?
The former program was based on the number of days cruised, as is the new program, so your former Rewards Level will be properly recognized within the new program.
QA.jpg
Will I still receive medallions and pins as I have in the past?
Existing medallions and lapel pins will be replaced with brand new lapel pins for Two-Star, Three-Star and Four-Star Mariners. After qualifying for a new level, you will receive your new pin in the mail. You can also request a pin onboard any Holland America Line ship.
QA.jpg
Can I "buy" additional nights to get to a higher tier?
No.
QA.jpg
How can I check my cruise history for accuracy? What do I do if I believe my records are incorrect?
You can view your cruise history, Star-Level, and bonus cruise day credits in the "My Account" section at www.hollandamerica.com. If you have not yet registered under the "My Account" section will need to follow the easy online instructions for first time account set-up. If you believe there is an error in your records, you can use the online tool located in the My Account section of the website to request a correction or you can also call the Holland America Line Mariner Society at 1-800-547-9139.
QA.jpg
How quickly will my Star-Level status be updated after I return from a cruise?
Seven to ten days after your cruise or cruisetour ends.
QA.jpg
Do third and fourth guests in a stateroom receive cruise day credits?
Third and fourth guests in a stateroom receive cruise day credits for days sailed and for Alaska and Yukon cruisetours days and the suite bonus. Only the first two guests in each stateroom receive cruise day credits for onboard spending.
QA.jpg
If a 3-Star Mariner shares a stateroom with a 2-Star Mariner, does each guest receive separate benefits?
All guests sharing a stateroom as part of the same booking will receive the benefits earned by the guest at the highest Star level. Guests sharing a stateroom under different booking numbers receive individual Star level benefits.

QA.jpg
Can I extend my benefits (such as the 25% or 50% discount at select food and beverage outlets) to shipmates?
No. Benefits are intended for the personal use of the applicable guest and those sharing a stateroom with the guest on the same booking number. Holland America Line reserves the right to limit benefits if necessary.
QA.jpg
Are any onboard charges excluded from the onboard purchases bonus?
All casino charges are excluded. The Hotel Service Charge, Beverage Service Charge, taxes, prebooked shore excursions and gift items all count toward bonus Cruise Day credits.
QA.jpg
I live outside the United States. Are there any differences in the program or benefits?
No.
QA.jpg
If I become eligible for a higher benefit tier while onboard, when can I take advantage of the additional benefits?
Elevated benefits will take effect on your next Holland America Line cruise.
QA.jpg
How will my Star status be recognized at the pier and onboard?

QA.jpg

For us -- it is worthless.

Free picture -- don't bother having our picture taken -- no one to show them to.

Spa -- never use it.

Complimentary wine tasting -- mostly like will be the cheaper one -- I spent time last night checking the time when it was held on our last few cruises -- right when we were at a suite lunch.

We don't use the mini-bar.

We don't buy wine packages.

I don't coffee -- DH uses the machines in the Naptune Lounge.

You have to wait until you are on board the ship to take advantage of the 50% off speciality restaurant price.

Since we book a Delux suite -- we already have priority embarkation, priority disembarkation, priority tender service, free laundry -- unless they are going to take that away from us.

What I would have liked to have seen -- some free minutes on the internet.

Hope we can hear from some people about the program before we leave on our cruise.

Many on CC who have many days are worried about long lines to check in -- long lines to leave the ship -- possibly not being able to Pinnacle reservations once they are on the ship.

And this has happened to us a few times trying to get Pinnacle reservations once on the ship -- and everything was booked!! And being in an SA didn't help -- our concierges could do nothing for us.

If people who book lower cabins than we do and with fewer days than us -- get what they want -- and all we may want is a simple dinner in the Pinnacle --- and maybe having to wait 3 or 4 days for laundry -- this could be what will make us jump cruise lines.

There has been talk about who get the VIP status -- some get it with only one cruise -- we have never gotten it.

Yonnie - I don't know when you're sailing, nor on which ship, but have a great time.

Once, in Fort Lauderdale a few years ago, the line for suite check-ins was longer and infinitely slower than the lines for regular check-ins. It was, unfortunately, one of those Murphy's Law cruises where a number of things were not up to HAL standards. :(

In all my HAL cruises - different ships/different destinations - I've yet to experience a full Pinnacle Grill. Perhaps it's because I rarely sail the Caribbean?

Krazy Kruizers

Holland America Specialist
The problem with the Pinnacle -- they only allow so many people to eat there each night -- big dining area -- but all tables are never used every night. We were told that they allow no more than 70 people on any night. We have had troubles getting reservations on Alaskan, Canada/New England, Pan American cruises - not just the Caribbean. Thus we make the majority of our reservation before we cruise (and that won't qualify for the new 50% discount).

I can't imagine what it is going to be like for the embarkation brunch -- considering that on all our cruises they have to have 2 Mariner's brunches to accommonadate everyone.

Quack !

Will Mariners receive cruise days credits for days on associate lines (i.e. - Carnival, Princess, Holland America, Seabourn, P&O, Cunard, Ocean Village, AIDA and Costa cruise lines)?
