Handicapped Cabins

I am looking at a great bargain price for the Zuiderdam. The balcony cabins are around $600 for October. The handicapped cabins look very large compared to the regular cabins and there is one available on my preferred cruise. Do I have to be handicapped to choose this cabin?

I don't know the answer to your question, but with the hundreds of great cabins available for non-physically challenged people I wouldn't want any handicapped person not to be able to cruise because I had taken a cabin that they had to have to be able to go on the ship. These handicapped cabins are larger to accomodate wheelchairs and possibly other medical equipment.

Most of the handicapped cabins have a shower only, and yes they have more room, but as Peaches has said that they are bigger so they will accomodate wheelchairs. So all you get is 36" wide walkways and not the 22".

It is my experience in hotels, that HANDICAPPED rooms are not as nice as regular rooms. The reason is that handicapped equipment needs to be installed and frankly it is not that good looking.

I am not sure how this applies to the ship cabins that are handicapped equipped.

If it was me, I would not choose a handicap room, larger or not.

Leaving it for someone who really needs it might be the best option.

ok, thanks for the reply's. Since this ship is getting such bad reviews everywhere I look I think I'll pick another ship. I was considering the larger cabin since no one has booked it so far but I guess I can see why. Does anyone like this ship?

I recently booked Zuiderdam for a September cruise. The ONLY cabins offered were handicap. I'm sure if a handicapped person requires it, HA will bump us to another cabin.

When we booked a handicapped cabin for my in-laws, there was a form that had to be filled out stating the disability of the person. If there is a guest that is not handicapped using the handicapped room, and a disabled person needs one, then we were told without the form, they would be bumped into what ever cabin was available.
