Yes, they closed them one evening on our Transtatlantic crossing last November due to rough seas about 5:30 in the evening. They do not come into your room as they make their way down the balconies from the outside, closing the doors as they go. You can still see out your window. Then next day they were open. Another day the seas were rough but they didn't close them that time. We LOVED the cove balcony and will book it again if we sail a ship with them. Here are a few videos I took....
