Greetings,

They say August and September are the best months for viewing, between 11p and 4a. Have any of you seen the Northern Lights while on a cruise?

Yes, I did - the night of September 23-24, 1957 (you read that correctly, 1957) - on the North Atlantic aboard RMS Queen Elizabeth, in the wee hours of the morning. Obviously, it's something I'll never forget. We were dancing in the night club, and several of us had gone out on the deck just aft of the Verandah Grille. We could see the Aurora Borealis dancing in the northern skies - and we just stood in fascination watching it. It was not multi-colored, as it can be, but white.

I've never seen them in Alaska. You have to have a dark sky for the best viewing.

We just got back and saw them twice on a southbound cruise from Seward to Vancover
08/02 - 08/09. It was around 2:am. Supposedly you can have the pursers desk give you a Northern Lights wake up call

Wow I never thought about that, thanks! I just wanted to see the stars at night without big city lights blinding me. :) I did see this once as I was flying to England years ago. It was "night" over the Atlantic and I looked out the window and saw some odd moving light effects in the distance. Very pretty.
