I was in a different chat room today and a lot of cruisers were saying Carnival has relaxed the rules about taking liquor on board, does anyone know if this is correct? Thanks

Relaxed in what respect? Passengers cannot bring hard liquor or beer on board, period. It can be smuggled on, but if found, it will definitely be confiscated. Wine and soft drinks may be brought on with no problem. Nothing has changed.

I think it depends on where you are boarding. I found San Juan to be very relaxed on the liquor policy. 4 of us bought about 30 bottles and had it all in our room, no problems.

But, I have been stopped by security when bringing alcohol back on board in St. Maartin. So, it just depends on what port and who happens to be working security that day.

I think the written rules have not changed... with more talk of booze smuggling and cost saving cruizers.... my opinion is that more are smarter and bringing booze as checked luggage and it passes easier through security as their focus is elsewhere.... plus in the grand scheme of things... you have varriances through personale which show the inconsistancies. Get a new hire on patrol... and you're caught. smuggling three bottles.... the person checking may have just let 5 pass through... so what's three...IMHO the individuals checking are what create the constant chatter about why one person is caught and 10 more pass through.... so we take our chances with no guarentee but what is written in the policy and I haven't found any recent changes... hope this helps.

We were just on the Valor and yes - things are relaxed. I know several folks who brought a cooler on board filled with beer and liquor. It was smuggled it was carried on. One person we met filled a cooler with a case of beer and had no problem walking on the ship with it. I purchased some liquor on shore and carried it to our room. I was not asked to check it.

we put ours in a soft sider cooler (NO ice), put it with out checkin bags, was delived to our room with no problems, steward kept it full of ice (without us asking him to do so) Don't pay for their high prices for their watered down drinks (yes we did purchase a few drinks, not much)

Judy- did you carry on those 30 bottles of alcohol?? or put them with your checked luggage?

A few years ago-- CArnival did away with bringing on of soda because of the amount of people rolling on with their huge coolers. It didnt set well with the paying public and they bought back a policy about sodas. Today documents will say a small quanity of non alcohoc beverages.

I also believe that someday we will see policies enforced but for now-- no.

Dont take a chance with carryon your stuff-- check it in withyour luggage
