Poinsettias? I hadn't until a friend found some several weeks ago, and today gave some to me. I'll put them out by the front door...

Trying to get into the Christmas spirit, I bought a little table-top live Christmas tree today - the first time I've bought one since I lost my first dog, Topaz, in 1999. I decided it was finally time to have a tree for Pucci - he'll be 9 in February, so it's been a long time coming. :(

I'll bring it inside and decorate it over the weekend.

Me thinks the ponsietta has been treated with some kind of dye to make it so very blue! It sure is pretty though.

I love your little tree. Be sure to post a photo once you get it all done up for the holiday season. Let us hope Pucci doesn't think it's a fire hydrant! :grin

I'm guessing they must be dyed, too, but I'll be watching as new leaves form.

I'll post photos of the tree once it's trimmed. It will go on a table in the family room. Pucci never learned to...ahem...use a fire hydrant, so I needn't worry. :grin

Beautiful blue poinsettias Mary Ann. It will be interesting to see what colour the new growth will be.
I love your Christmas tree, and I too look forward to seeing it decorated.

Very pretty but I agree that it looks like dyed white poinsetta's. Keep Pucci away from them as they make doggies sick. :(

Very pretty Mary Ann. When I was a kid we use to cut white roses from my Grandmother's rose arbor and put them in water with blue food coloring. The next day we would take blue roses to our teachers.

My DD has a beautiful pink poinsettia that has some kind of clear glitter all over the leaves giving it quite a shimmer. It is somehow glued on yet the leave aren't effected adversely.

Blue Poinsettas are not dyed... there are new strains out there that have been tested for some years now and are just coming out... some of the new ones are beautiful pink, ivory with light pink in the middle of the leaf, and the blue you see there.

Thanks for all your comments, and I'm particularly interested in yours, Geezer. I hope they ARE a new strain - they're stunning.

Yes, I've also seen poinsettias and other flowers with the "new" glitter on them. Pretty.

I'm placing these outside the front door - well out of the way of Pucci as I know they're poisonous to animals. :(

Thanks for the article geezer! I knew that pointsettias came in a myriad of shades (reds, pinks, yellows, greens and whites) but I had never, never seen a shade of blue before! It is definitely quite striking!

Those blue poinsettias are absolutely stunning. They're sitting outside the front door now.

And for those who asked to see the little tree decorated, here it is. It's atop the cocktail table in our family room - because of its small size, most everything overwhelms it. But Pucci sat there overseeing decorating his first Christmas tree... ;)

Oh Maryann-- that tree is so sweet. It reminds me of a song I used to sing when I was little called Christine the Christmas Tree. It went something like this...

Christine the Christmas tree was half as tall as a tree should be,
The woodsmen always passed her by, at Christmas she would cry!
Christine the Christmas tree, the other trees used to laugh, "tee, hee",
They said she was too small to wear silver tinsel in her hair.

One day the king rode through the wood, the other trees stood as tall as they could.
He spied Christine who wept alone, and said, "She'll just fit by my throne!"
Now every Christmas time, she proudly stands by the king and the queen.
They crowned a star on sweet Christine, the tiny Christmas tree!!

One day I'll post the lyrics to "Sweet Angie the Christmas Tree Angel" since I see you have her too :grin !

That's beautiful, Beryl. And so appropriate for the little tree. Thank you.

You have the most wonderful collection of poems and music! What a treasure trove for all of us.
