Hawaii cruising

Hi,

We are planning a Hawaii trip for 12/04 and are trying to choose from one of the three cruiselines that sail from SanDiego/LosAngeles round trip. The three choices are the Island Princess, HAL Statendam, and Celebrity Infinity. We sailed with Infinity on our first cruise and it was wonderful, but would like to try another line if they are as good.

Thanks for any advice,
Karen

If ship's age is important to you, the Statendam is pretty old if that's a factor in choosing for you. The Island is new (just out) and there are some good pictures of it at Cruise Critic's site and some of the Coral (sister ship) at Cruise Mates that are pretty good. Have you read reviews? There probably won't be many of the Island, but should be lots of the Statendam and you already know the Infinity. Maybe there's someone out there that has been on all 3 ships?

Have you considered one of the 10 or 11 night sailings on the Norwegian Wind that will be sailing the Hawaiian Islands from Honolulu at that time. She may not be the glamourous ship that the Infinity is but you have done that. Why not really enjoy the islands and Fanning Island for a real Hawaiian experience. I understand that NCL will be adding a lot of Hawaiian entertainment and events this time around as they were not doing it when the ship was in Hawaii before. Think about it.
Aloha, Craig

I haven't sailed the Island Princess (am sailing the Coral over Thanksgiving, the Island over Christmas) yet, but have sailed on the Millennium and the Summit (sister ships to the Infinity). I have heard only great things about this class of ship. However, I also love the Millennium class ship too.

Since you haven't sailed Princess yet, why not give them a try, assuming that the itinerary, etc are basically equal.

Thanks for all of the helpful hints. So many good points to consider. One thought really fits me - if you haven't tried it - go for it!!! In the 23 years hubby was in the Navy, the number one factor when looking for new orders was - where haven't we been before? So we are definitely looking for something new and exciting. Love to hear about the Princess ships and would love to hear reviews of the Island.

Thanks again,
Karen

We are booked on the Island for 10-21-04. The idea of the round trip is what I like, you have the sea days at the end to relax after what will be a very intensive touring scheduel.
