Heard from Tim Today

I just heard from Tim, he is still at the hospital in Balad and will probably be transferred to Kuwait. He is doing ok and is on morphine. He described the burns he had on his face and arm as more of a really bad sunburn, or a cinge, but nonetheless very painful. His eyelashes are gone, He also has some gashes on his legs and arm and his toe hurts -actually his whole body hurts. It sounds like he was hurt the least of any of them in the vehicle. The other two had broken bones and were transferred to Germany. He ended up pulling the driver, who was unconcious out of the vehicle (which was starting to burn). It sounds like it was absolute chaos at the scene. He stayed with the driver and held his head and his hand and told him he would be alright. Tim said he was presented with a purple heart last night and may get some other kind of award. I am so thankful that he is going to be ok.

Tim had almost everything he owned (in Iraq) in that truck, they were going to another base for a couple of days and he brought it all along - computer, brand new video camera he got when he was home on leave, new camera he had bought the day before because his broke when he was home, playstation something or other, headphones, cds, all the pictures he had taken over there and all his personal hygiene items. As a parent, I am so proud of him, he could have grabbed the bag but did the absolute right thing, and took care of the driver instead. Everything else can be replaced.

I appreciate all your support!
Donna

Oh Donna I know it is a relief for you to get to talk to him. You post has really brought tears to my eyes. How proud you and Mike must be of Tim...he is a true hero. I pray that his burns will heal with little or now scaring and truly thank God her or his comrades weren't killed.

Oh, Donna, I'm glad you finally heard from your son, but how terrible for him to go through this.

He sounds like a truly great young man, you must be SO PROUD!

He showed his true character by staying with that other man. God Bless him.

I hope he gets well soon, and can get home soon too.

Donna, it's wonderful news that he is not hurt as badly as he could have been and that he will mend. So sorry the others were hurt more. Those things he lost are just material things, even though I am sure they bring him a lot of comfort while he is so far away. Prayers will continue for Tim and all our men and women doing their job that our country asks of them.

What an amazing son you have Donna! I'm so glad to hear he is going to be ok. The items lost are material and can be replaced. What he did for his fellow soldier was exemplary. You should be so proud. I hope his burns heal quickly and he's home safe soon.

Our boys have to be quite the men when they go to Iraq but I am sure you as a parent had a lot to do with his great upbringing,so great he helped out the driver as well,I pray the months he has remaining go by fast and uneventful and he is home in good ole WI soon or somewhere near you in the US! Purple heart, WOW! Tim certainly did deserve that. Hope it is proudly displayed at Mom's house for years to come. Our world needs more fine young men such as Tim who have their priorities straight.

Hope he is sent home for some R&R ASAP and gets the pampering that he so deserves. NOW, you guys get some sleep, OK?

Hugs, Mari

Wonderful news, Donna. So very glad that it's not as bad as originally thought. Now I only hope they let him go home, or at least someplace safe, so he can recuperate.
