Hi,
We'll be in Skagway on the Sept 7 and very much interested in this helicopter itenary:

After a helicopter flight over enormous mountain peaks and ridges, through winding, dark canyons and along untouched glaciers, your pilot will select a landing area and drop you off in one of the canyons far from civilization. Experienced hiking guides will take you through beautiful mountain valleys with hanging glaciers spilling over mountains high above. Instead of flying back in a helicopter, the train "White Pass & Yukon Railroad" will stop to pick you up on its scenic, winding journey back to Skagway. You will be able to experience in one day a breathtaking helicopter flight, hiking through pristine and awe-inspiring nature and enjoy the one of a kind train ride that was built under torturous conditions for the gold prospectors a century ago. This tour has a very limited capacity and is dependent on current weather conditions.

Does anyone know something that's offered like this but cheaper? (this one is $300)

Just planning my day trips. In the past, I've found that booking on my own is much cheaper than through the cruiseline. Is this true in Alaska as well?
Does anyone have any website/recommendations/advice on excursions in the following places?
Juneau
Skagway
Tracy Arm??? (do we just cruise pass it??)
Ketchikan
Victoria

First time in Alaska. Any additional advice, comments will be really appreciated as well. Thanks all

With four of us on our cruise, most of those pricey air excursions scared us...but, everyone told us we had to do at least one...and we were EXTREMELY happy with the one we chose...it was downright spectacular...

It was in Juneau...

$180 per person (a bargain relative to most of the others)...

We were picked up by a van at the ship and driven to the airport...boarded a six-passenger helicopter and flew up over some very craggy and ice-covere mountains and up to Herbert Glacier (north of Mendenhall)...We landed way up near the top of the glacier and walked around on the blue ice...absolutely fascinating...after a while, we reboarded the copters and flew back around over Mendenhall Glacier for most of its length, over the Mendenhall Valley and back to the airport...The van brought us back to the ship...

I felt this was the best use of the ports: Saved the Whale Watching for Icy Strait and Skagway for horseback riding and White Pass...

Have fun...
