With four of us on our cruise, most of those pricey air excursions scared us...but, everyone told us we had to do at least one...and we were EXTREMELY happy with the one we chose...it was downright spectacular...

It was in Juneau...

$180 per person (a bargain relative to most of the others)...

We were picked up by a van at the ship and driven to the airport...boarded a six-passenger helicopter and flew up over  some very craggy and ice-covere mountains and up to Herbert Glacier (north of Mendenhall)...We landed way up near the top of the glacier and walked around on the blue ice...absolutely fascinating...after a while, we reboarded the copters and flew back around over Mendenhall Glacier for most of its length, over the Mendenhall Valley and back to the airport...The van brought us back to the ship...

I felt this was the best use of the ports:  Saved the Whale Watching for Icy Strait and Skagway for horseback riding and White Pass...

Have fun...
