Hello! Long Time no see...But I have to vent about RCCL!

Hello all! Long time no see! Busy as usual...isn't that typical?!

Had to log on this evening and ask Loyal RCCL customers to write to RCCL over their current policy change! If you have not heard, RCCL is changing the requirements for their Crown and Anchor perks. As a Diamond member for the past 7 cruises...I am about to loose perks due to this change and it's really torked me the wrong way. As of July 2009, Diamond member no longer get use of the concierge clubs...they are now reserved for suites only. Next, current Diamond members loose the use of the Diamond club on all ships other than Freedom and Oasis class ships. I find this is a bad move on RCCL's part. It makes loyal customers now consider other cruise lines and that doesn't sound like a smart move on RCCL's part. To add to my ire, we just got off Liberty last week and the tiered seats on the pool deck were reserved for executive suit use only...all of them. And about 80% of the time they were empty!!! Now I can understand profits and business and giving added perks to people paying $6000 plus dollars for getting a suite...that's good business sense...but RCCL is going overboard with their treatment of possible one time big spenders at the risk of their loyal past passengers. I think this is wrong. I'd like to know if I'm off base here or if you agree! If you do agree?

I suggest any Crown and Anchor member that has been loyal to RCCL voice their displeasure by writing to RCCL. Thanks for letting me vent! Hope all the regulars on the site are doing great!

When I get some time and I'm not venting, I'll drop by and leave a groaner and chat a bit!

Take care all!

Scott

I am not happy about the change either, but I have to admit I have avoided the Concierge Club lately, because of crowds and too much bother for a free drink. I have to say I have not attended a Captain's party in years either. I did write RCI, and did not receive a response yet, let you know if I do. I understand about the crowded situation, and would have appreciated some other compensation. I know they are getting ALOT of flack over this. Other websites have a few threads about this.

There's an eMail from Adam Goldstein sent today that there is now a compromise for the Diamond loss of CL. The new benefits for Diamond will be on the RCCL website in the next 48 hours. Essentially, on ships with a CL but without a Diamond Lounge there will be a VIP lounge set up for Diamonds. Wine and Champagne will be offered free of charge from 5 to 8 PM.....other drinks will be offered at a 25% discount. There will be a continental breakfast available in some lounge in the mornings with a crew member available for Ice Show tickets etc.

If anyone wants to read the whole letter, I posted it under Scott other post on this topic, on the Q&A page.

Re: Hello! Long Time no see...But I have to vent about RCCL!

I was on the Explorer a couple of weeks ago. They were also reserving those areas for “Suite Passengers†It was absolutely ridiculous, like you said most of the chairs went empty ALL DAY. We watched the “Chair Police†for hours chasing people from these areas. There were two women who were just delighted with their reserved seats and spent the day alerting the “Chair Police†of violators in the section reserved only for the “Elite†after people were asked to leave the area the Chair Police and the two immature women with no class at all would give one another a THUMBS UP! How stupid! I called the “Chair Police†over and let him know that this was my 10th cruise on the Explorer and never saw passengers treated in this manner. I also mentioned that I felt he was showing great disrespect to the other passengers by engaging in the THUMBS UP game with the two low class women in the reserved chairs. He said he was just trying to make everyone happy, and said I had every right to complain, so I took his name and did just that. Later in the afternoon I watched on as the same “Chair Police†watched an “Elite Passenger†tell a couple to “pay up or get out Jacka**†and the “Chair Police just watched on while the guy was so rude to the other passengers. ARGH! The next day I spent in the solarium and found that the “Elite†people who didn’t want to sit in their reserved section by the pool had 4 deck hands dragging lounge chairs and taking cushions from other chairs to make a small sitting room for their group in the Solarium.

Quite laughable behavior if you ask me. If these people think they're "elite," they're on the wrong cruise line. What a sad existence.

Methinks RCI has created a monster here..... The sooner they realize, admit and correct it the better.
