I am planning a trip from Galveston this July and need help from some of you out there. My ten year old daughter and I want to do a dolphin swim; which is the best one--chankanaab, xel-ha, or xcaret? I know you get to chankanaab from cozumel; we dock there and playadel carmen or calica. Which port is closest to xel-ha and xcaret? Got any recommendations for shore excursions in either of those places? Also, I have been searching for hotels in Galveston that will shuttle you to the pier and let you park at the hotel during the cruise if you stay with them beforehand. Anyone had any experience with this? Thanks so much!

Chankabaab National Park is very beautiful. I have heard nothing but rave reviews about the dolphin swim. You can also swim and snorkel both and after the dolphin swim.

Calia is the closest port to Xel-Ha and Xcaret, both of which are on the mainland. It is about a 45 minute to 1-hour ferry ride from Cozumel to Playa Del Carmen. You will then have to take a cab or bus to the park or ruins.

The Commodore on the Beach is a very nice hotel in Galveston that will allow you to park FREE and provide FREE shuttle to and from the pier. It was very nice having a shuttle waiting for us after debarkation. The hotel is very nice, not really fancy, but very clean and nice. The employees were extremely friendly and helpful.

Thanks. So, if we are going to dock in Calica or Playa del Carmen then Xcaret and Xel-ha are close? lisa

Not sure about the excursions but the Hilton Hotel on the beach has free parking for the duration and provides a shuttle to and from the cruise terminal.

Lisa... Yes, they are all on the mainland. You will be able to catch a cab or there is a bus that will take you to both or either one. There is only one highway that runs down the coast from Playa or Calia to both parks.

FYI: I found a really good rate to stay the night before at the Econolodge. They will let you park there while on the cruise. lisa

Does anyone know how much cab fare is from Calica to Xcaret? Also has anyone eaten there and remember about what the prices were? Trying to decide on which "package" to get . Thanks for the info!
