If your child isn't quite 3, you are right - it's going to be hard for them to ready by May. Something that I have seen on cruises occasionally is where families pack blowup pools for the little ones not trained. Place it near the ship pool and ask a staff member to help fill it up. This way you can watch the little one and the older kids at the same time. Just a suggestion.
